Nestle Nesquik Strawberry Flavour Powder
Advantages: Makes milk that little bit less boring
Disadvantages: it's too nice!
Nesquik had always been a firm favourite in my childhood home. But once alcohol and going out became a big past time it was soon forgotten. That was until a recent trip to the supermarket with my two boys and the other half I came across the once loved product. Well I couldn't resist, not for the boys for me of course! I insisted on getting the chocolate flavour like a little spoilt girl but he insisted the strawberry was much better. So we came to a conclusion we would get both!
Nesquik is a powdery substance you add to milk to give your milk that particular flavour. Nesquik began in 1948 in America by Nestle and made its way across Europe two years later. Its name began as Nestle Quik but once it hit Europe it became Nesquik to us. In 1999 everyone followed suit and the brand became world widely known as Nesquik.
Since then the brand has expanded beyond just the original chocolate flavour to banana then strawberry and then vanilla. Other flavours were introduced but only for a small amount of time we had cherry, cream, triple chocolate and honey.
So after trying the chocolate flavour I remembered how gorgeous it was but I did reluctantly try the strawberry. All I can say is wow what had I been missing out on. After making the milk up as recommended on the packaging it had a lovely very little baby pick shade to it with bubbles on top from stirring it rapidly. The flavour has an instant sweetness to it but funny enough it tasted fresher then the heavy chocolate flavor. Depending on the amount of powder you add depends on the strength of the strawberry flavour coming through. I didn't find it sickly and could just keep drinking it more and more. I love it!
The Nesquik powder comes in a yellow tub with a push off lid that fit snuggly back on after use to keep the powder dry. The bright yellow tub has a wrap around label on it with lots of relevant information. The famous Nesquik bunny (which first appeared on the launch of the strawberry flavour just before 1970) is engraved on the lid of the tub and in colour form on the label. Everyone knows this famous bunny as the Nesquik bunny I remember him from my childhood.
The great thing about Nesquik is there isn't any artificial colours, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives and is full of vitamins. On the front of the packaging there is splash of milk with the message it 'contains Vitamin D for strong bones'. A 15g serving with 200ml of semi skimmed milk contains 154 calories.
The thing I love most about the packaging is the recommended way to make a Nesquik it reads: 'Eagerly pour the milk into a glass with a smile on your face, add 2 - 4 teaspoons of Nesquik to the taste you like (we think 3 teaspoons is the best). Try not to jump up and down in excitement as you stir it up and ...gulp...now you can enjoy the scrummy yumminess of Nesquik.' I mean it just makes the product sound loved and it is going to be a quality product.
Nesquik contains the following ingredients: sugar, glucose, syrup, natural colour: beetroot red, flavourings, calcium carbonate, vitamins (C, Niiacin,E, D, B6, Thiamin (B1), Pantothenic acid, folic acid) and magnesium carbonate.
My eldest son is two and a half and he does have a Nesquik from time to time and as you can imagine he loves it. I don't give it to my 14 month old as I like him to have his two mugs of milk a day without having to add something to it every time, I'm not too sure it would be advised by health professions either!
Currently in Tesco you can get a 300g tub or a 500g tub. 300g is priced at £1.72 but currently reduced to a £1 and the 500g is £2.75. We currently have a 300g tub of the strawberry flavor and have found it has lasted a couple of months. I don't have one every night but probably once a week! It has stayed very fresh in its tub.
Summary: Well worth stocking up on when the supermarkets have it on offer
