Advantages: tastes nice
Disadvantages: none if used as an occasional drink I feel
I remember when I was younger and I used to love having a milkshake made using Nesquik powder made by my mum. My son also seems to have inherited my love of the drink and so at home I often have a tub of the milkshake powder so I can make us a drink when we fancy one! You can buy this in strawberry, banana and chocolate varieties but we usually opt for strawberry.
The milkshake powder comes in a bright yellow tub which contains 300g of the powder. On the pack there is a picture of a rabbit drinking milkshake from a straw and this couple with the bright yellow colour of the tub ensures that it will be noticed by children. We are told that the strawberry flavoured milkshake powder contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and that it is also suitable for vegetarians.
When you lift the lid off the tub you need to remove a paper film designed to keep the powder fresh. Once you remove this you can see quite a bright pink coloured powder which smells very sweet and of strawberry although it is quite an artificial strawberry scent.
The idea with this product is that you add two to four teaspoons of the powder in to a cup or glass and add a little milk to make a paste before adding the rest of the milk and stirring until it is smooth-you then have strawberry flavoured milk! To be honest I never actually make it this way because I don't usually bother reading the tub and instead I pour a glass of milk and then add the powder and stir. I like to do it this way because as you stir you can see the milk change colour and gauge how strong it will be. This way I can make my son quite a weak flavoured milkshake but he can still see me add the powder and the milk change colour which he likes.
I love the taste of this milkshake especially if it quite strongly made because it is just so sweet. My son enjoys it too and so whilst he isn't usually fussy when drinking plain milk allowing him to have this pink, strawberry flavoured milk encourages him to drink it on the occasions he is being fussy.
If you make this drink with 200ml of semi skimmed milk and 15g of the Nesquik powder you have the following:
158kcal
7.2g protein
24.4g carbohydrates
3.5g fat
I don't think these nutritional values are bad at all, and most of them come from the milk itself, and so I am happy to give me son a drink using this powder every now and then. I would advise that the powder can settle in to a clump if not used in a while as the tub can't be totally air tight but it is still fine to use. The powder always has a good use by date too making it a handy store cupboard item.
You can buy Nesquik powder in a few varieties from supermarkets where it costs around two pounds. My son and I both recommend it as a nice treat!
Thank you for reading my review!
Summary: A nice drink
