As a twenty year old male i am still a youngster when it comes to ales, but i would call myself a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to ales, as i have been drinking them for around 5 years. One of the first beers, and Probably one of the best i have ever had, has to be Newcastle Brown Ale, or dog as the Northerners have renamed it. There are two stories behind the name 'dog'. The first one in the early days of Newcastle Brown Ale the men of the family would make up any excuse to get out of the house, and escape to the pub or the club. One of the most famous excuses was "i'm taking the DOG for a walk" and just so happens that they pass a pub on the dogs walk, and the man nips in for a quick bottle of Ale. The other tail of dog, is i think more modern, after a heavy night out on the drink, a hiar of the dog was used to cure hang-overs. but it not the hair of a dogs back it's a alcoholic drink, and they used to use Brown Ale. The names don't just end their, in modern history this fine drink has been called: Milk of Insomnia; Insanty soup; Milk of Amnesia; and this drink used to be so potent and deadly it even had it's own ward in a Newcastle Hospital, (may i add that some of these names a comical and not to be taken seriously). But i am glad to say that it is not so potant, and is perfectly safe for human consumption. The frist thing that attracted me to this drink was the sponsorship of Newcastle United, i seen it on the front to there shrits and i thought i'll try one, and i hope, if you have read this far, you try a bottle yourself. Brewed at the famous Newcastle brewery, one of the finest beer makers in Great Britain. This ale is full a fruity and a slight bitter taste which leave you wanting more, and with a fairly stong 4.7% volume, is very nice and if you enjoy ales you should love this one,and this ale can only be made in Newcastle and no where else so this ale is truely &
quot;the one and only". If you ever try a bottle please ask for a "scooner glass" and fill the glass up about a third and sip the drink and top the glass up every so oftern, as this ale gets better the longer it gets to breathe. Please follow these instructions and you beer will take alot nicer.
