If, as I do, you prefer your whisky to have a gentle peaty taste, you could do no worse than to try a dram from the Old Fettercairn distillery, Kincardineshire. Whyte and Macakay now own this distillery. Old Fettercairn 10 Year Old (40%) is a quite dry and slightly spicy whisky. It has a pale gold colour and goes down very smoothly indeed. However, an even better whisky is their Old Fettercairn 1980 (43%). This is a darker, deeper whisky and is slightly peatier. It is richer but still has a slightly spicy finish.
