Advantages: Good availability, nice range of products, decent taste
Disadvantages: A bit expensive
Well this is the daddy of Ginger Beers on the market in my area (although thats not saying much as its either that or supermarkets own brand), I remember when I used to live in South London closer to Caribbean influenced shops there were some amazingly authentic Ginger Beers that could blow your head off and clear colds, mouth ulcers and hangovers with one gulp, this is much more of a corporate product but is still reasonably good in its own right.
Products in range:
Well its all about the Ginger Beer, but you can buy the products in 500ml, 1 litre or 2 litre bottles, or 330ml cans, the packaging is a Plastic bottle or can with the white and orange lined product design. It looks fairly cool with some trees on the packaging, it does give a Caribbean feel to the product and doesn't overdo it in anyway.
Availability:
You can easily buy these products in any good supermarket, they are also available in most smaller shops, especially in London, where you can buy all of the products pretty much everywhere. Its not the kind of product you can get in bars or restaurants unless they are available in places i've not visited yet.
Prices:
Current Prices at Tesco:
330ml Can - 33p
500ml bottle - 79p
1.5 litre bottle - £1.07
Product information:
There are 64 calories per 100ml, meaning a can takes about 220 calories which is one tenth of a man's recommended intake.
Ingredients
Carbonated Water, Sugar, Ginger Root Extract and Other Flavouring, Citric Acid, Preservative (Sodium Benzoate), Stabiliser (Quillala Extract).
Taste:
It tastes fairly good, it has a good kick, although not enough to really make it an authentic Ginger Beer. Personally I think the prices are a bit high for the quality of the product, but it is decent enough. The ginger in the flavour shines through and it is very carbonated, its great if you have a sore throat as a bit of light relief. If I can't make my own at home, this will be the one I use to drink with a curry or spicy meal, it has a lovely relaxing taste and then a kick that surprises and brings you back down to earth. This is a 3 out of 5 product and is easily available everywhere.
Summary: Not the Gingerest Beer out there, but it tries hard!
