Advantages: Low Calorie, Chocolatey taste

Disadvantages: Limited Edition, Lack of Cherry Taste

I had been looking for some hot chocolate sachets for my younger brother to take away on a camping weekend, so when I spotted the Options Limited Edition hot chocolates in Tesco, I was desperate to try them for myself. I'm always a bit wary when they mix flavours up but at 3 for £1, it wasn't a great loss if I didn't like them and someone else would always drink them, so I opted for the chocolate cherry flavour.

The powder comes in a bit of a jazzed up sachet, which I have to say caught my eye and attracted me to try them. The flavour is surrounded by dark pink swirls and instantly leaped out at my girly side. The drink contains 60 calories, which is 20 more than the original for those of us who are watching our weight, it still isn't very much to get that chocolate hit.

I have to say on opening the packet, you are hit with the smell of cherry, it is quite strong like cherry liquor, which I can't stand after having a stint stacking shelves full of boxes of cherry liquor chocolates. The packet advises mixing the powder with some hot water first into a paste otherwise it doesn't dissolve very well, after forgetting to do this on one occasion, I found lumps of powder in my hot chocolate, which wasn't pleasant.

I was quite disappointed on the flavour point, to be honest. I expected it to have more of a cherry kick, especially because of the smell but it only had a slight hint and was more a thick hot chocolate. However, it was still a nice hot chocolate and it was exactly what I needed curled up on the sofa with the fire roaring watching corrie, it just hit the spot. It contains 20% cocoa powder and 10% chocolate, which explains the strong chocolate flavour.

I don't think I would buy this again unless it was on offer, I think it makes a welcome change and I look forwards to trying the other flavours.

Summary: A nice twist on the classic hot chocolate
