Advantages: They have nice flavours and are low calorie, they taste like chocolate and are sweet
Disadvantages: Some of the flavours are not as good as others
I only ever brought the Belgian Chocolate variety of Options hot chocolate because I always worried about buying a full jar of the other flavours in case I didn't like them. I have always wondered what the Mint and Toffee flavours were like but as I am quite particular about flavoured hot chocolate I didn't want to waste money on a full jar that might have been thrown away after one tasting.
I was happy when I was shopping in Sainsburys a while ago when I saw that Options are available now in single serve sachets and only cost 27p each. This means it is a perfect way to sample different flavours of the hot chocolate without spending a fortune.
The sachets are proper Options and have a surprisingly rich and smooth taste considering this is an instant diet hot chocolate and they are usually watery and have no flavour. Most of the sachets are based around the Belgian Chocolate and it is this that the flavour is added to. Options itself is a lovely hot drink if you want something different from tea and they are sweet enough to make it feel like I am having a treat even though most flavours are less than 35 calories. It has a very nice chocolate taste and will satisfy a chocolate craving for me so I don't have to break my diet.
There are lots of flavours to choose from in the sachets and I have just drunk a Cinnamon one. It was nice and sweet with a good cinnamon flavour through the drink. I added a spoon of sugar to mine because I am diabetic and my blood sugar was a little bit low but soon after drinking my Options drink I was allright. All of the flavours are sweet enough for you to not need sugar in them but if you add a little bit of sugar then it doesn't hurt the taste of the drink at all. I only use a small mug when I have a sachet of Options hot chocolate because if you add too much water then you are left with a very thin and flavourless drink.
I have had the Mint, Toffee, Mocha and Vanilla and they have all been nice except I thought the limited edition toffee one was a bit like dishwater because it has a white chocolate base I think. The mint Options is very nice and I am going to buy a big jar of it next time I am in the supermarket. I think it is the best tasting mint hot chocolate I've tasted and I forget it's a diet drink as the minty chocolate is so smooth that I sometimes have 2 sachets one after the other. I like the orange flavour as well because that has a darker flavour and the orange matches it well like in an orange flavour chocolate from a box of Roses. Mocha Options is a nice change for people who don't like proper coffee like me. I like coffee but it is always too strong for me so I like the fact that the hot chocolate still tastes like the original Belgian Chocolate one but with a hint of coffee flavouring.
I have found the sachets to be very good and worth the money. I have been able to taste the different flavours and because my favourite is the Belgian Chocolate I still buy the jar of that and stock up with a few of the different sachets for variety. All of the sachets mix easily with boiling water so sometimes when I know I will be going out for the day I will put some sachets in my handbag and just ask for a cup of boiling water in cafe. This is not because I cannot afford a cup of tea while I am out but I am very funny about my hot drinks and don't always like tea and coffee from cafes. I can mix a sachet in the hot water in a few seconds and I have my favourite drink then wherever I am.
Sainsburys very often have special offers on the Options sachets and the offer is usually buy 3 sachets for 69p which is a good saving. I have also brought 3 and had the 4th sachet free. I think it is definatly better than buying lots of different big jars of hot chocolate because I can choose whatever flavour I am in the mood for and I know that if I make a bad choice then I've only wasted a few pence.
Summary: This is a perfect way to try different flavours of hot chocolate
