Advantages: tangy, sweet, lovely flavour
Disadvantages: couldn't taste the orange in it after a while
I recently bought a few different flavours of Options hot chocolate to try, one of which was the outrageous orange flavour.
~About Options~
Options make several different flavours of hot chocolate, including Mint, Orange, Toffee, Belgian Chocolate and Vanilla to name just a few. They come in small single sachets, and some of the more popular flavours also come in a jar.
~Packaging~
Outrageous Orange is one of the flavours which comes in either jar or sachet form. I bought the sachet, as I had never tried it before, so didn't want to splash out on a jar in case I didn't like it. The sachets are small with an easy to tear corner, and contain all the product information on the back.
~My Thoughts~
I bought three sachets of this, and is the second one I have tried , the first one being the mint flavour, which I really liked. As with the mint, I was surprised at how much powder is in one sachet. Usually when making up hot chocolate from a tub, I wouldn't use this much powder- it looked like quite a lot sat in the bottom of my mug! The powder had a slightly orangey smell to it, even before adding the water. Once the water was added, it looked like any other cup of hot chocolate, a lovely dark brown colour, the only difference being that there was a slight hint of an orange aroma.
I really love orange flavoured chocolate, so I was looking forward to trying this. When I first took a sip, the combination of the orange and chocolate was lovely - it tasted just like Terry's chocolate orange. It was pleasant, and the balance of the two flavours was just right - neither one overpowered the other. As I drank on, I found that the orange flavour became less and less noticeable - perhaps my taste buds had just become accustomed to it - but by the time I was about halfway down the mug, it just started to taste like any other cup of hot chocolate, which was a bit strange. Either way though, it was enjoyable, and certainly a lot nicer than the own brand hot chocolate I usually buy.
~Nutritional Info~
One mug of this contains the following....
Calories - 40
Protein - 1g
Carbs - 6.5g
Fat - 1.2g
It states that this can be used to help slimming or weight control when used alongside a calorie controlled diet.
It may be worth noting, that this contains a total of 8 different E numbers, and also the artificial sweetener Aspartame, which is quite controversial, as it's said to have negative effects on your health.
~Price~
I think a sachet cost me about 29p from Somerfield, I have been unable to find the price of the full jar, but I think they normally cost around the £2.50 mark.
~Conclusion~
This was really nice, but it was strange (and a bit disappointing) that the orange flavour seemed to disappear after a while. Still, I would buy this again, and will look out for the full sized tubs in the future.
