Advantages: Easy to make, smooth and rich

Disadvantages: Er, where's the white choc?

Hey! What a great idea! Take hot chocolate to a different level and market a hot white chocolate drink. That's a fab idea! And with it being Options, which I am partial to every now and then, I thought that it couldn't possibly go wrong. And then comes the dreaded word: 'however'.............

Options have a impressive range of tasty, sweet(ish) and relaxing hot chocolates, with flavours varying from regular to mint and Belgian choc, and the majority of them are lovely. This white chocolate flavoured one, however, wasn't too convincing. Making it, as always, is pretty easy in comparison with other hot chocolate brands: stirring as you add the hot water is often a good idea to prevent your powder clumping into blobs or becoming a paste that clings to the bottom of your mug, taking all the flavour with it. I don't usually have this problem with Options drinks in general, and this is the same: all powder is used, none is left at the bottom.

It's the taste that bugs me. I was expecting a similarly solid flavour of white chocolate to hit me when I took a whiff of the drink, and I got nothing but milkiness. The same is true of the taste. While it tastes okay, and is still above a lot of hot chocs in terms of whether I actually liked it or not, it didn't seem to do 'what it says on the tin', so to speak. There was a hint of whit choc, but it was too subtle and not enough, especially when you expect a strong flavour, as with their other flavours.

Pricewise, a 220g tub of this will set you back in the region of £2.50. Occasionally, the price is cut is various stores, but when you think that following their guidelines gives you about 20 servings, it's costing about 12/13p per drink. Not bad at all. It's just a shame about the taste. A mug of this will give you 45 calories (assuming you follow the guidelines: it's about 11g per serving), and there are a few flavourings and the like in there, with a few E numbers to boot.

Overall, I was disappointed with this product. I love other Options varieties, but you can't always get it right, so I probably won't bother with this again.

Summary: Shame about the missing white chocolate
