Options White Wicked Drink
I have to admit, when it comes to hot white chocolate drinks nothing beats the Whittards one. However, at the moment I can't really afford to go and spend money on tubs of that so I treated myself to an individual serving of this the other day.
The individual packets are 31g each and cost 32p or you can have 4 for £1. I only bought one however, and I think 32p is a reasonable price to pay when you think how much you'd be stung for something like this in a cafe. It's also available however in a large jar if you want more of the stuff (but strangely not from Tesco who only stock the individual sachets of this flavour).
The theory with this is that you empty it into the mug, add the hot water, stir, and drink. The fact is however that if you do that what you'll have is pretty washed out tasting and not that delicious. I've found that if I make it up a bit like one might a mug of coffee - with hot water and then a bit of milk - it's much nicer and the extra milk gives it a much fuller creamier taste.
Now this is designed as a low fat low calorie drink - so I'd best mention that side of it although for me it's just the only 'cheap' (individual) hot white chocolate drink I can get at the moment. Each mug full made their way (not mine), contains 44 calories and 1.1grams of fat.
This is safe for anyone who can't tolerate caffeine like myself as white chocolate doesn't contain any caffeine like regular milk and dark chocolate do. However there is a note on this that it may contain almonds and hazelnuts so if you've a nut intolerance I'd avoid this!
This is quite a sweet tasting drink, and with the extra added milk - and it's only semi skimmed I use - it does taste quite nice. Not as rich as Whittards version, but still full enough flavoured to make it very pleasant to drink of an evening when you're in your pajamas curled up on the sofa with a biccy and a good film.
I won't be moving back to buying this regularly, but for now, it's satisfied my hot white chocolate drink craving so I'm pleased with that.
Summary: A reasonably nice tasting white chocolate drink that's low in fat and fairly healthy.
