Advantages: It is a refreshing drink that when served cold can taste really nice.
Disadvantages: Can taste bitter at times and if you shake it up the orange bits will put you off.
I remember when I first tried Orangina I was only about 10 and the container that it came in was not plastic like today it was shaped more like a Genie`s Bottle and i thought that when I first opened the bottle I would get granted three wishes but it was not to be from this fizzy drink just a drink what a shame!
I wanted to try something different from the normal Cokes and Lemonades and when I went to the local shop and saw this fizzy drink I was intrigued as to what it was and so gleefully handed over my money and took a swig of this orange colored drink.
I was so very surprised to find out how sweet it was but this was down to the fact that it is made from real oranges. Also after a couple of mouthfuls I thought it was looking a bit cloudy so shook it up and wish I really had not as it just did not taste the same after this and after I had consumed the drink I was left with a deluge of orange pieces and promptly placed the bottle in the glass bottle bank.
I did try Orangina a few more times but stuck to Coke and Lemonade as I felt my first experience with this citrus drink would just leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth again.I then in 1991
took a trip with my Scout Troop to a French town called Carentan which is twinned with a place called Selby in North Yorkshire.
When we arrived and had set up our tents me and the other scouts including my brother took a venture to the local shop and I was only 12 at the time but my brother was 15 and when he had
come out of the shop I could not believe my eyes that he had a Bottle Of Lager because strangely the drinking limit I got told was 14 which I found hard to believe or my brother looked a convincing older person.
Not believing what i had seen i wondered what drink could quench my thirst as I was getting a bit dehydrated. To my amazement when I looked in the chiller cabinet I was surprised to see a bottle shaped like a Genie`s Bottle with an orange fizzy
liquid in and found my old friend Orangina again.
At first I was sceptical as with anything in my life if I take a dislike to it then i do not usually try it again but it seemed popular among my friends and the alternative fizzy drinks did not look too great so i took the bottle from the fridge paid for it at the counter
and then got outside and took a mouthful of the fizzy drink.
To my delight it was just how i remembered it when it was good and there was not the taste that had made me feel so bad towards this drink and i remembered not to shake the bottle as it would not awake at all it would put me off it again and once again
i became a fan of Orangina and threw the bottle away before the orange bits became visible and in the week i was in France i consumed about 5 bottles in total.
I had a bottle not too long ago from my local shop and it brought back both the good and the bad memories but showed that even
something like a fizzy drink can leave an impact on you and can show your taste for these kind of drinks later on in your life and in the future.
I would try it but not if their is an earthquake or sat on a bus or a tumble dryer!
Summary: A drink that still has a fizz and kick to it after quite a few years.
