I recently visited Orkney and in between seeing ancient sites and natural wonders I also sampled a fair few of the local beers and to my delight found that many of them would make a visit to the islands worthwhile all on their own. Of course it is also possible to get the beer beyond the isles in various pubs around Britain on tap and bottled. The Orkney brewery which brews Dark Island is now owned by Norman Sinclair but was set up by Rodger and Irene White in 1988 in the schoolhouse near Quoyloo, a town on the west of mainland Orkney. ….When I'm back, once more upon, the Dark Island. We went out to a couple of our local pubs the other night (The Portland Hotel and The Market in Chesterfield and The Industry in Newbold) and, as it was St. Andrew’s Day, we decided to sample a few Scottish beers. We had some Deuchars IPA first and then had some Orkney Dark Island so, because I’ve already reviewed the former, I decided that it was about time to spill the beans on Dark Island. ~~~THE BREWERY.
