Advantages: Delicious

Disadvantages: None really

I (sort of) gave-up caffeine in early 2001 , and until a few months ago, was very happy to quench my thirst with camomile, peppermint, rosehip and the rest of their herby cousins. But I needed a change, and I remembered somebody telling me that Redbush tea tasted just like 'ordinary' tea (you know, PG Tips, Brooke Bond, etc). I bought a box produced by THE REDBUSH TEA COMPANY, and found myself succumbing willingly to it.

Thus, it is the converts zeal that inpires me to write on this subject, even after reading Ashford's *amazing* - and highly recommended - piece. My opinion of the product differs from his, and - in the interests of balance - I thought it would be a nice idea to proffer mine.

As I said it really looks like 'ordinary' black tea: dark brown when you pour the boiling water over the bag; beigey-brown when you pour your milk in. (Yes; you can use milk, sugar, honey - whatever you use with your regular tea). The only thing that distinguishes it from Tetley and co is the smell: it's kind-of like menthol - you know, like that vicks cream stuff your mum would put on your neck when you were little (don't worry it is nowhere near as strong :-D ).

I normally keep the bag in the water for five or six minutes and add a little semi-skimmed milk. The result is reminiscent of a fairly mild tea; but sweeter and with a unique nuttiness. It is a perfect accompaniment to cake, sweet fruit (like bananas), breakfast cereals and wheat items like bread or rolls.

Price: a box of 80 costs over £3.00, which is about average for herbal teas.

I would whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone who wants to reduce their caffeine-intake but is afraid to give up their morning cuppa'; and to those who have had bad experiences with herbal teas.
