Advantages: No sugar

Disadvantages: Artificial sweeteners, unpleasant aftertaste

Over the last few weeks I have been trying to drink Pepsi Max and Coke Zero instead of normal full fat Pepsi and Coke. This is to try and prevent me from putting on any more weight!

Pepsi Max is described as having 'Maximum Taste, No Sugar'. Which I take to mean that it should taste like normal Pepsi but not have the calories and shockingly high sugar content. Well it doesn't quite achieve this but it does come quite close.

In each 250 ml serving of full fat Pepsi there are 105 calories and 27.5 grams of sugar. In each serving of Pepsi Max there is just one calorie and no sugar at all. Obviously this means that Pepsi Max is going to be better for your waistline and for your teeth.

Does it taste as good as normal Pepsi? Not quite, as it has a bit of a synthetic aftertaste and is not as sweet as regular Pepsi. However it tastes a lot more like it than Diet Pepsi does and it's not unpleasant to drink at all. If you weren't paying attention you might think you were having normal Pepsi.

Of course because Pepsi has no sugar it does contain artificial sweeteners including aspartame and acesulfame K. There's not much evidence that these are particularly bad for you but some people like to avoid them.

I think Pepsi Max is a good way to have a fizzy, coke-like drink without it having much impact on your weight. However if I didn't have to worry about my weight then I would buy normal Pepsi or Coca Cola every time.

Pepsi is available in cans or various sized bottles, and you can usually pick up a 2 litre bottle from most supermarkets for between £1.50 and £2.

Summary: Good for my waistline!

If you are interested check out www.dorway.com they list 92 symptoms that are attributed to aspartame, you may well find you never touch anything containing it again. :-]

It's best to avoid giving children anything that contains Aspartame , especially if they are hyperactive. Aspartame can also cause some other rather strange side effects such as Palpitations, diarrhea, confusuion, dry eyes, tinnitus, the list goes on. I am sure that some countries have banned it due to the extensive list of problems it can cause. :-/
