Advantages: errr give me a while I might think of one
Disadvantages: price, taste, smell, goes flat too quickly
Ok now for those of you who have read a number of my food and drink reviews you will know that I'm not a fan of anything with artificial rubbish in. So when I saw this which stated that it contained no artificial colours, sweeteners, flavourings or preservatives I decided that I had to give it a go. Now this was probably a mistake as I'm more of a coke drinker than a Pepsi drinker. Anyway the first problem is that it is expensive, a 250ml can was 80p in my local tesco. Still not deterred I still bought a can.
On opening the can there was no real sound of the pressure being released. I soon found out this was because this 'cola' goes flat within a couple of minutes of pouring it into my glass. The colour of it is much paler than I would have expected from a cola. This I put down to the lack of artificial colouring. It looked like it was made of half a can of normal cola which had been topped up with water.
The smell is also rather odd, not what I would expect from a cola. It is slightly reminiscent of half fermented apples with a faint whiff of cola. This really did not bode well for the taste of this stuff masquerading as cola. The taste was very strange, sweet yes but not overly so. Again the main taste to me appears to be that of apples but apples which have gone bad. You know what I mean, the taste of the dark patch of an apple that has gone past its best. There is also a very strange after taste of something that I really find hard to describe but it is strangely chemical (this is very strange as according to the ingredients it doesn't contain any). After this it left my mouth feeling quite dried out. This was in no way refreshing and I doubt even serving it in a pint glass chock full of ice would improve matters.
Pepsi claim that this version of the drink has fewer calories than their regular Pepsi. I'm sorry but considering just how bad this tasted I will be sticking to the full calorie version and just do an extra few minutes on the cross-trainer.
Nutritionl info (per 250ml can)
Energy - 98 Kcal
Sugars - 24g
Fat - 0g
Salt - trace
Despite its claim to be additive free this actually tasted more synthetic than regular Pepsi. This is certainly not something that I would consider buying again. If there is anyone out there who can remember 'tab clear' and how revolting that was trust me this is far worse. The only way this could perhaps be improved is for the apple extract used in the concoction to be removed as at least this might get rid of the rotten apple taste.
I'm now off to wash my mouth out with some ordinary cola to get this awful aftertaste out of my mouth. I have given it one star as I could not give it zero
Summary: the worst cola I have ever tasted.
