Advantages: Great for black tea
Disadvantages: Take a long time to brew
I don't often drink decaf tea myself, but my sister does, so I bought some decaf teabags in especially for when she visits.
The first thing difference I noticed from ordinary teabags came during the brewing of the tea. The decaf teabags take twice as long as ordinary teabags to brew to a decent strength and take a lot more stirring and squeezing of the bag in order to release the flavour.
Once the extended brewing time is over, we get to the most important thing which is the taste. And in all honesty I couldn't tell the difference between the caffeinated and the decaffeinated tea. I often like to have the odd cuppa without milk and just with a slice of lemon. For this I prefer the tea to be a bit weaker than normal, so these bags are perfect for that, the caffeinated tea bags brew too quickly to get a weak cup so in the past I've had to buy leaf tea. Now I can just use the decaf for lemon tea.
These particular bags are also Rainforest Alliance certified, so the tea is produced using sustainable farming methods, and the workers who pick the tea are given access to education and medical facilities. So you can drink it without feeling guilty.
I have swapped my last cuppa, which I normally have about 10.30pm over to these decaf bags, in the hopes it would lead to an easier sleep (although so far, after 2 months there has been no noticeable difference). But I have to have my quota of caffeine in order to make it through the day, so for me these are a once a day bag rather than a regular bag.
Summary: A decent brew if you're prepared to wait.

- 20/04/09 How about
"Decaf with his head!" or
Tea Decaf to wait for.." or
one Decaf, two Decaf, three Decaf, no more" or
"weak at Decaf knees"
I'll stop now. |
