Advantages: Nice Flavour
Disadvantages: More expensive than supermarket brands
Most of us enjoy a cup of tea now and again - whilst for others, tea can be a bit of an addiction. That's why choosing a decent brand is important.
I have always found PG Tips to be a good compromise between flavour and value, and although it's not cheap, it certainly isn't extortionate. From Tesco, a box of 80 tea-bags costs £1.66 - which is 2.1p per bag. The 240 box costs £4.34 - equating to 1.8p per bag.
PG Tips was first produced in 1930, when it was known simply as 'Digestive'. Unfortunately for the brand, the name had to be changed, as new regulations said that tea was no longer able to market itself as being helpful to digestion. Therefore 'Digestive' tea became 'Pre-Gest-Tee', which was later simplified to 'PG Tips'.
A unique quality of PG Tips is the pyramid-shaped tea bags. This was first introduced in 1996, and is apparently designed in this particular shape in order to help the tea leaves move around unhindered. I'm not sure whether or not this actually makes the tea taste any better, but it is a bit more novel than the old fashioned square version.
Some cheaper supermarket teas can be extremely weak - even when brewed for a long time, whilst others can have a bitter aftertaste, or worse - no aftertaste at all. When brewed for around a minute and a half, PG Tips has a nice full flavour that isn't too strong and isn't too weak. Therefore, I would recommend this particular tea for a satisfying relaxing cuppa.
Summary: Great Tea
