There are 2 strands to this review, so please be patient and read on .... 'VINTAGE' PIMM'S No 1 Back in the 1970’s after Heather & I were married and we were DINKIES (Dual Income No Kids ...), we splashed out on all sorts of different booze for our single drinks ‘cabinet’ and drank (and ate and drank and drank ...) VERY well indeed. I remember that we bought a bottle of Pimm's No 1 and served it one summer (1975, to be exact), and Heather’s Mum & Dad (life-long Methodists and then virtually Tee-Total) did quite enjoy the (very weak) concoctions we made them (with plenty of Lemonade and Fruit and leaves). There's no doubt about it - Pimms is the quintessential summer drink of choice in the UK. Largely associated in the past with Wimbledon, it is good to see that a variety of pubs are not only selling Pimms, but are actively promoting it. In Wetherspoons for example a pitcher will cost you just £5.95 in most places outside of London The traditional way of serving it is with lemondade ice, cucumber, mint and orange slices. The cucumber, in particular, adds a certain freshness to the drink which is somewhat surprising but ever so nice. Pimms itself is originated from gin, which surprised me as I absolutely loathe and detest gin, but love ... Read the complete review

Pimm's was first introduced in 1823 by James Pimm (hence the name) and is now owned by diageo. It is most common in the UK especially in southern areas; it is a gin based alcoholic drink. The most common Pimm's is No 1 which is gin based, there were also another 5 but have been phased out these were rum, vodka, whiskey, brandy and rye. Pimm's for some reason has always been associated with wealth, I'm just trying to remember the adverts, this involved a posh speaking man with the quotation it's pimm's o'clock. It is said to be very commonly drank at Wimbledon and Henley royal Regatta. You will often think of pimm's being drunk at a summer wedding or an ... Read the complete review

Don’t you just love those Pimm’s adverts we’ve had on the TV for the last couple of years? Alexander Armstrong plays the upper class twit with the picnic hamper containing his Pimm’s mixing kit. He encounters a variety of different groups including motorway protesters, prostitutes, farmer workers and rave DJ’s and every advert ends with him crying “one of me - four of you - I make that Pimm’s O’Clock”. ** BUILDING UP A THIRST ** The Pimm's tradition is now as well established within British culture as cups of tea and Chicken Tikka. At the first sign of a heatwave, all the supermarkets put Pimm’s and punnets of strawberries on special offer. Pubs and ... Read the complete review

What is Pimm's Gin Cup No 1 Pimm's No 1 is a gin-based drink made in England from dry gin, liqueur, fruit juices, and spices. It is golden brown in colour and when Served with lemon soda or ginger ale, it becomes a Pimm's Cup. It was created in the mid-18th century by an English oyster bar owner James Pimm. Taste It tastes fruity and spicy and goes especially well with strawberries, soda, fresh mint, orange slices and lots of ice. In the original recipe cucumbers are added but I prefer it without (or just a small amount, a couple of slices). The fruit seems to bring out the taste of the Pimms. When to drink ...
