Advantages: Lovely refreshing summer cocktail

Disadvantages: Requires some effort on the fruit which makes it so special

Am just coming to the end of my bottle of Pimms No.1 - which must mean summer is almost over! I wonder how many bottles they sell of this drink in the winter months? For me it is the perfect drink for summer afternoons in the garden with friends when I make a jug up with plenty of ice, 1 part pimms to 3 parts lemonade, and some chopped up mint, strawberries, slices of orange and cucumber floating in it.

Its a gin based drink although I don't think you have to be a gin fan to appreciate it; in fact the biggest danger of Pimm's is that it doesn't taste very alcoholic at all when mixed with lemonade; however it is 25% proof so go easy. The bottle I have got is a litre which when mixed correctly will make 20 servings - or at least 3 jugs worth - which makes it not bad value - if you forget about all the fruit you've chopped up to go in it.

As well as summer barbeques with friends I like being served this drink at weddings, fetes etc. I have once or twice ordered it in a pub but without the fruit & lots of ice it is a miserable looking drink and I haven't enjoyed it half as much.

The bottle is a classic design and states that this mixer has been made to a secret recipe since 1840 so I can't tell you what's in it but highly recommend as a special summer drink.

Summary: Classic summer drink but a bit of a faff

I've never tried this. I know you said it is gin-based, but what does it taste like?
