Advantages: Taste nice, pure OJ, good value
Disadvantages: Normally quite expensive, calories, sugar
We all drink orange juice in our house, but we normally buy it based on price rather than quality. I find that orange juice rarely varies when it is in its simplest form of just the juice, whether it's Tesco's own Value orange juice, or one of the other cheaper brands.
Occasionally at Tesco, a more expensive product is on offer, and this week, Princes Pure Orange Juice was on a buy one get one free offer at the price of £1.07 for a litre carton, which actually makes it a couple of pence cheaper per carton when you compare it to the Value price. So, I picked up four of them.
The carton is a tall one, meaning it's slimmer and fits better in the fridge door. It's a flip top lid with a foil seal inside as opposed to just a carton which you have to tear. This makes storing it easier and it doesn't slop if you move the fridge door too quickly.
The juice itself tastes nice, although I can't honestly say that there's much of a difference between it and other juices I've had. Nutritionally, o 150ml serving constitutes as 1 portion of your 5 a day recommended fruit and veg portion, and will give you just under 270 calories and around 13.5g of sugar. It's not the best for your teeth, or for a calory controlled diet, really, but then most orange juices are sugary and will be higher in calories than you'd expect.
Princes boast in their ingredients list that this is just pure orange juice from concentrate, which is certainly better than some other OJ products which use other ingredients to enhance flavours. I do rate this product highly, although once the price drops back down again in a couple of weeks I'll probably switch back to a cheaper brand.
Summary: A good OJ
