Advantages: Nice blend, health benefits
Disadvantages: Price!
I received a free bag of this this morning with a G Baldwin & Co's catalogue. I just brewed it up and drank it, then hit the internet to begin this review.
Since then, I've been researching and found that Pukka Herbs specialize in herbal supplements and teas. They're an ethical company that support fairtrade and they work under sustainable projects. They say they're entirely vegetarian and everything is organically grown.
Their teas in this range are all branded with a specific purpose in mind, containing suitable ingredients to achieve their desired effect. Others in the range include; relax, revitalize and detox. Refresh contains peppermint leaf, licorice root, fennel seed, hibiscus flower, rose flower and coriander seed, which are cooling, balancing ingredients which also help with digestion. I'm not quite sure what the core purpose of this blend is, although it says 'refresh' - it's quite a vague statement, and what it says on the website isn't very specific either.
The flavours in this tea are mostly familiar to me as I drink quite a lot of herbal teas, and I have to say this blend is especially nice. Peppermint and fennel are the stand-out flavours and they all work together really nicely; it's very satisfying to drink. Herbal teas are almost always an aquired taste, though, so I'm speaking on the basis of being someone who's already acquired that taste.
I wasn't expecting that much from this tea to be honest, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Not only is it a really nice drink, it's also calmed me down and that is honestly quite a feat for me. I'm not sure it's supposed to be calming, there is a "relax" blend after all, but I'm pleased non the less.
It costs £2.09 for 20 bags on pukkaherbs.com, which is more than I'd like to be paying. Hopefully I can find it cheaper elsewhere!
Summary: Tasty tea with cooling effects, wish it wasn't so expensive
