Advantages: Fab taste, great price and very refreshing Cola

Disadvantages: None

This is a new brand of cola that has hit the UK shops recently, I have only seen it in Asda so far that I have noticed and it has been on special offer deals in there since its release. The brand is founded and based in America and is called Royal Crown Cola, RC Cola for short, this review is for the diet variety of the drink.

The Brand

RC cola is available in 330ml cans as well as 2 litre plastic bottles. The diet can is silver in colour, much like the diet Coke and Pepsi cans, with red and blue Branding reading 'Diet RC Cola, Columbus, Georgia, USA Since 1905'. The drink was indeed developed in 1905, or at least the full fat version was, the company is now since 2000 owned by Cadbury Schweppes plc. In the 50s the combination of Royal Crown Cola and Moonpies became popularly known as the "working man's lunch". From my knowledge this has only recently been available in major supermarkets in the UK. I think the can design looks quite classic with an old school design.

Taste

The pop is not too fizzy or over carbonated which I personally like, some fizzy drinks make me feel very bloated and leave me with a trapped air feeling in my throat. The diet cola drink has a slightly more syrupy taste than Diet Coke or Pepsi has, which I think some diet soft drinks tend to lack and I do find myself missing. This is great considering the drink is sugar free, you can really not notice the lack of sugars in this refreshment, yet there is not the sugary and sweet liquid film left in your mouth afterwards, another plus. RC Cola use Splenda brand sugar rather than Aspartame which might explain the almost full fat taste, which sounds good to me.

The liquid itself is the typical light brown cola colour we come to expect from these drinks with visible bubbles and fizz, best enjoyed straight from the fridge and served with ice and a slice of lemon. It is very fluid and quite translucent to look at. I think this might be my favourite Diet Cola drink of the lot, which is quite a statement! It is cheap, refreshing and has a great authentic cola taste.

Price and Availability

As stated I have only come across this drink so far in an Asda supermarket and so far I have only had to pay £1 for a case of six cans, a great price and I hope the deal lasts a lot longer (I think it has been this price for a month or so now). Likewise the 2 litre plastic bottles retail for £1 at the moment so I would urge you to try this out as a Coke/Pepsi alternative. The regular RC Cola is also this price.
