Advantages: Taste, Price

Disadvantages: You might not like coke

I had read a little bit about Red Bull Cola but had never seen it. Then whilst looking in Wilkinson's saw it for around 45p this was a definite price I was happy to pay. Having gone through a variety of Cokes a few weeks back it now seemed I was on to drinking energy drinks en masse so this sounded like the perfect combination. Red Bull and Coke right? What an amazing idea, one of those concepts that blows your mind on potential...a bit like the Wii which has yet to deliver what it undoubtedly can.

Red Bull to those that have been living under a rock has been developed into a massive enterprise including an F1 team. The drink has been a massive success and based on being a high caffine drink with 32mg of it in every 100ml. The clever advertising which sees a poorly drawn animated character spouting wings after drinking it and the tag of "Red Bull gives you wings". A huge drink that has managed to maintain massive popularity and huge sales despite similar cheaper products coming onto the market.

Coke on the other hand has seen a 2 company domination of the market with Coca-Cola and Pepsi pretty much sharing the market and being able to use the idea of being superior products to allow then to retail at a higher price. The infamous coke wars proved this when Virgin coke tried to go head to head with them to no success at all. The supposed "bi-opoly" of the big two has been all but unbreakable. So enter Red Bull with this with version of their Coke, of course there is alternatives to the big two with most British super markets having their own version's but they don't really stand up to much scrutiny.

The can has a very familiar look to it, to the point where a friend from work was sure it was proper Red Bull until it was pointed out the can said cola. So apart from possible confusion with proper Red Bull you wont be picking this up by accident and by keeping the Red Bull can the drink has inherited the iconic image of the Red Bull empire.

Upon opening the can it sounded like their was a small amount of explosives under the tab, a loud energetic pop that those who often drink Red Bull will be used to (however the sound is absent from the sugar free Red Bull). The smell that's released from the can is a perfectly sweet cola odour that rivals the main two. The taste however was brilliant a real top quality coke drink with a full flavour and a spicy after taste from the cinnamon and ginger in the ingredients. This spicy taste seems a lot stronger than it does from the other cokes which separates the drink from them and adds something extra. The drink has quite a flat texture to it which is a nice feel to those of up who don't want drink to leave our nostrils. However the drink does disappoint slightly in the fact it's all coke and no Red Bull, this isn't a knock on the actual drink though just more a realisation I hadn't fully understood it was "Red Bull Cola" not "Red Bull (with Cola)". Yes I realise Red Bull with Cola would have been delightful and I was wishing it was that, I can't actually complain about this as it tastes wonderful and much spicier than the main Cokes. Finally the big two do have a series rival with a big name backer and a company that can give the product a legitimate push.

Nutritional Information per 100ml (the can is an odd 335ml)
38 Calories
8.5g Carbohydrates (all of which are sugar)
<0.01g Fat (0g Saturates)
<0.003g Sodium

The drink contains no artificial colours or flavours, no preservatives of no Phosphic acid however it does contain two ingredients that did stand out (much more than the Cinnamon and ginger) it contains Mace and Mustard Seeds. Now I'm not going to research this for fear of being put off the drink, but isn't Mace the spray women have in case of rape in the US?

Overall a brilliant drink that is well worth trying for 45p and the fact you'll love it means that it won't be a one off, especially not for me.

Summary: ...It got high hahahahahah...yeah it's a poor joke...
