Well we all know Red bull is king when it comes to energy drinks the main purpose of these is to give you a boost in energy through times of extreme mental and physical performance. With the energy drink market ever increasing as people become more and more busy it was only a matter of time before a higher caffeine version of the all too farmilar carbonated energy drink arose but im not too sure if it has done what it has set out to do. This product was realieased in april 2009 and in those 2 years I feel that the carbonated version still rules the roost. It has been poorly advertised and in my eyes over priced. I first bought one after a long labouring nightshift, when I seen the strip of these little redbull bottles I was intrigued and although £1.99 seemed expensive for a tiny bottle fascination took over. As i cracked the lid I was met by the all the familiar smell of redbull one in which I had grown to love but after a sip my face shriveled and my stomach turned, it was a warm bitter and almost syrup like taste, I chugged the rest and went on about my day for the first 5-10 minutes i definitely felt a increase in energy and it almost made me happy and chirpy at 7am but after around 15 minutes I had a huge crash and felt just as tired as before. I have tried them several times since then and have also found a place where they are chilled but still the same bitter taste. although I did not like this product I feel redbull deserves its dues for there carbonated energy drink which I still buy day in day out.
This is the latest product line from red bull. The idea is for a single swig of red bull to wake you up and give you the same effect as drinking a whole can. This means giving you a red bull product with a lot more caffeine. In most places the product is stored outside of the fridge and for me the ice cold taste is the best part of red bull so this is disappointing. The taste is also without much fizz and a concentrated red bull taste. In this way I find it quite sickening really and it makes my stomach a bit sensitive for a while.
The worst part though is that I drink quite a lot of red bull over the last couple of years. After drinking one of these shots I did not get any kind of hit which the marketing was suggesting. This was quite disappointing because the product is quite expensive at around £1.50 each.
These are definitely products which you want to restrict your consumption of though as the high caffeine content can do serious damage to your heart over time.
With several major drinks companies who make energy drinks looking to make them stronger but smaller it was only a matter of time before the kings of energy drinks would do there own and this lead to Red Bull Energy Shot. Much like Lucozade Alert Plus and other similar drinks the caffeine content seems rather excessive but yet they are made for a single shot usage to really wake someone up almost instantly. However what often happens is that the drinks lose any quality of taste and often seem more like medication than an actual nice drink, though whether or not this Red Bull alternative breaks the trend will be seen soon, what must be noted is the price, which is around £1.30 for just 60ml, which looks rather excessive, though if it works then well it might be worth it.
The drink comes in a little plastic bottle with the iconic blue and silver colour scheme of the rest of the Red Bull range though this is, unlike the others, made of plastic (the rest seem to be aluminium) with a plastic wrapper wrapper around it. When the lid is taken off the reassuring smell of Red Bull can be smelt from the top of the bottle in such a way that it makes you think that this will actually taste like the Red Bull many of us know and love (the Lucozade version actually smells like a medicine with an orange scent trying to cover it). Though it's only one mouthful it does leave you with a pleasant taste in your mouth which is quite unusual for this sort of drink, and the shot goes down easily. Best of all it gives you a strong kick up the proverbial and will help you stay awake whether or not it will help you concentrate or anything is a totally different matter.

Overall the drink is the best of the current batch of caffeine shots available, having by far the best taste and one of the strongest (if not THE strongest). Though maybe with it's price it may not be for all, what it is for is those working nights or those students who don't want to be on the normal Red Bull all night to finish off their work. Red Bull Energy Shot...like a rocket to the brain you won't be sleeping any time soon.
