Advantages: does what it's supposed to do, tastes quite nice
Disadvantages: not very good for you if you have it often
Red Bull is a soft drink which promises to provide energy, increase stimulation, concentration, and alertness. It was originally marketed in Austria in 1987 and I'm told that it was produced for long distance lorry drivers to keep them alert and awake whilst driving. I have drunk a fair bit of Red Bull and I do like the taste, although I don't think it is very good for you. Although sold in shops and supermarkets as an energy drink, if you go to a pub or nightclub they combine it with vodka to produce an alcoholic beverage - surely this can't be good for you? I have tried this once or twice, but wouldn't drink it all night like some people do because it's just too sweet and all that caffeine would keep you awake!
The packaging or can for Red Bull is very distinctive and different from any other can in design due to its colouring and shape. The can is chequered with metallic blue and silver, the Red Bull name across the front in red and the logo of the two bulls. It is also a lot taller than normal cans of coke etc and skinnier too. It's a nicely designed can which is very easy to hold and drink from.
The taste or Red Bull will not be to everybody's liking. When you first open the can the smell hits you, its smells very sweet indeed and in a rather odd way tastes exactly like it smells if that makes sense - when you smell it you can almost taste it because the flavouring is so strong. To me it tastes exactly like you would expect a strong energy drink to taste like, very sweet and chemically, hard to describe really, but those of you who have tried Red Bull before will know exactly what I mean. I will say that it is very important to chill the drink completely before drinking though, otherwise it tastes rather odd.
In terms of doing what it says it's going to do - wake you up and make you feel alert etc it does do the job. I wouldn't recommend downing a can, but if you have the odd sip it will certainly stimulate you and make you feel like you have more energy, for this reason it is a good drink if you're on your way to work and feel tired. As for the slogan 'it gives you wings' I'm afraid it doesn't but it does do everything else it suggests on the can.
Nutritional Information:
Per 100ml: 45kcal, contains large volumes of Sugar, Caffeine & Taurine.
Price:
£1.00 - £1.40
I would certainly recommend Red Bull as a stimulating energy drink, although I would advise against drinking it regularly because of some of the substances it contains.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: a good drink to have once in a while
