Advantages: tastes OK & seems to do the trick

Disadvantages: very sweet & taste lingers in the mouth a good while after drinking

I can always tell when my younger daughter has been at the Red Bull as she goes hyperactive almost immediately after drinking it & then turns into an irritable 18 year old after a couple of hours. I think she pops into the local Spar near her college & she pays £1 for a 250ml can. I'm not keen on energy drinks & warned her against having so much caffeine but it seems to be the norm to consume energy drinks & I'm hoping, when at uni, she won't be able to afford to buy a lot lol!

Hubby came home last week with a trayful of Red Bull from Costco which worked out about 87p each but funnily enough my daughter hasn't really touched them.

I woke up this morning feeling drained - partly due to maturing years & partly through the heat - had my usual teas & coffes but still feeling drained. I decided that I needed a burst of caffeine to give me some energy & opened a lovely cold Red Bull which I enjoyed at the time of drinking.

I'm saying that I enjoyed it at the time but now, a couple of hours later, I still have the sweet taste of it in my mouth despite having brushed my teeth & using Listerine mouthwash - not pleasant when tastes linger is it?

It wasn't the taste or colour I'd expected (only seen people drink it from the can) I thought it was going to be red but it's a deep urine colour & not as fizzy as I'd thought it would be. I may have a strange sense of smell but it smelt to me of a sort of sweet cherryade? - very sweet but pleasant-tasting.

I wouldn't say I got an immediate or noticeable 'hit' from it but I have managed to get some steaming done, finished the washing-up & have started to prepare the evening meal as well as tidy up around the house so I guess I have to say it does provide energy. I don't feel hyper nor irritable - just have a nasty aftertaste.

Red bull claims to do the following ~

- improves performance.
- increases concentration & reaction time.
- improves vigilance.
- stimulates metabolism.

hmmmm - can't really say if these claims are true or not - if I feel differently later on I'll add to the review!

The nutritional values & ingredients are all listed on the back of the can - I won't list them all but just tell you than there are (per 100g) 11g sugar & 0.3% caffeine (plus oxides of different sorts) so it's by no means a healthy drink.

summary
~
- probably the same amount of caffeine in this as a strong cup of coffee?
- around £1 per can.
- nice-tasting energy drink which seemed to work for me.
- very sweet & leaves an aftertaste which I'm not at all keen on.
- worth a try if you like your energy drinks but not the cheapest on the market.

Th

Summary: worth a try if you like expensive energy drinks?

I love Red Bull, but it seems to have absolutely no effect on me, I think I'm immune due to the amount of tea I dink in a day anyway!! :)
