Advantages: Tasty, 100% recycled bottle, no fat or saturates
Disadvantages: High calorie contend and expensive
For as long as I rememver I have always loved strawberry ribena. I remember when I was little, my grandma always used to give me cartons of it when I was with her. Sadly, then you couldn't buy it in the bottle form or the syrup one where you add your own water, but now you can and I am absolutelt delighted!
Ribena bought the strawberry version out in bottle form a couple of years ago. It was then that this drink became my all time favourite. You can purchase a 500ml bottle for between 95p and £1.20 usually. I usually begrudge paying over a £1 for a bottle of it, but I still do as it tastes so damn good! I'm a massive fan of fizzy drinks, but I find this much better for my stomach and easier to drink; I always get hiccups after a few mouthfuls of pop!
When they bought out the syrup vbersion which you could make into your own squash, I HAD to try it! Bottles of 1l usually cost about £2.70. This is quite a lot for a bottle of squash, I have to admit, but in my mind, it is completely worth it. I can make a bottle last about two weeks if I drink other things as well, but if I only drink strawberry ribena, it doesn't hang around very long at all.
I find that to get that proper strawberyr ribena taste that you experience in the bottle and carton form, you need to add a fair amount of the syrupy mixture (which is very sticky, so try not to spill it! I have learnt my lesson here, as it is a nightmare to get off services!). They say that a 250ml serving contains 113 calories (obviously when it is diluted with water), with a 50ml serving of ribena with at least 4 parts water. Based on this serving suggestion, the bottle says that you should get about 20 servings, which I think works out at about 15p each (probably wrong, I'm not sure I did the maths right there!).
I definitely recommend drinknig it with cold water. Adding room temperature water is never as plesant, and I really like to enjoy every drop of my ribena (to make sure I get my money's worth!).
There's some positives about buying it too, other than the taste. There are no artificial colours or sweetners and the packing is 100% recycled.
Sadly, there is a heck of a lot of sugar in each serving; 27.3g which equates to 30% of your daily recommended allowance. But there is no fat or saturates content and it says you need to trace the salt; so that's all good!
I always recommend this to friends and family, though I always begrudge sharing it! I';m always rather pleased inside when people pass over it for something else instead!
Summary: My favourite drink, though rather expensive
