Nice and easy, not so tasty (Ribena Blackcurrant Concentrate)

Advantages: Easy to mix, tasty for kids

Disadvantages: New flavour not as good as the old

Ribena is one of the drinks that I grew up with... it is also one that changed its mix and flavour over the years. About the same time that they launched all their money making sugar free and kind to teeth brands, the standard concentrate also changed.

Gone was the lovely fruity blackcurrant flavour. It used to be so rich and really tasty. In comparison, the new and current offering reminds me of medicine. It really lacks the natural flavour. I am not sure if this is due to some sort of adative in the drink to make it stay fresh, or something else they have added, but in my opinion it is definitely not as nice.

That said, my son really loves it. The less sugary option is the way to go, and he has one bottle of Ribena and another of plain water to take to school. This gives a good balance. It is nice and easy to mix and the concentrate bottle is drip-free, so very easy to pour. For a flavoured drink it also offers good value for money. My advice is, if you can, avoid the little cartons and buy the concentrate, it works out much better value.

Summary: Worth the money, if only they would get that natural flavour back
