Advantages: Tasty hot or cold
Disadvantages: Can go a bit off and still be 'in date'
Ribena, or Beena as it's referred to in our house, is a wonder drink that kids and adults enjoy. It's probably the most versatile concentrate ever.
As a child I drank Ribena, it was my drink of choice when I was not allowed fizzy drinks (I question my parents logic in that as Ribena is very high in sugar, but hey).
Since moving out of my parental home I have always had a bottle of Ribena in the fridge.
On a warm summers day, sitting in the garden, a Ribena with ice goes down a treat. It's refreshing, tasty, thirst quenching and also gives your sugar cravings a hit.
On a cold winter day, warm the kettle until just before it boils and pour over some Ribena into a mug. It'll warm you up from the inside out and you can cosy your hands on the mug too. It's also quite refreshing hot, weird as that sounds.
When you're poorly and the Doctor has told you to go home and drink hot liquids to help shift the yuk on your chest, Ribena is the perfect option. It soothes your sore throat, and is easy on your tummy too.
The final use for it would be in the bar. You know the occasions where you run out of mixers and suddenly decide that you NEED to make cocktails... well Ribena is your saviour. I have added it to Vodka, Bacardi, Gin and Sambuca with and without lemonade and other things to make a yummy drink.**
For hot summers, freezing winters, poorly people and late night cocktail making, Ribena is a great drink to have in your cupboard.
I keep ours in the fridge as I like it ice cold in summer and it tends to keep longer.
Watch out for buying massive bottles of it, as it does go off if you don't drink it that often. Keep an eye on it going a brownish colour in the bottle, that's when it's turning and tastes quite grim when it's like that.
** I was *cough* merry when sampling my home made Ribena cocktails and do remember that they were tasty. If you try mixing your own Ribena cocktails in either desperation or with forward planning and they taste jolly awful, don't blame me.
Summary: See if you can find another way to drink it
