Advantages: Soothing on the throat
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive
Suffering from a nasty cold I decided to buy some Ribena as I was feeling very sorry for myself and a hot ribena is something my mother used to give me when full of cold.
Currently priced at £2.40 in Tesco for a litre it is not a cheap drink but I was feeling sorry for myself and wanted a little treat!
Product Info
Ribena contains no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners and is rich in vitamin c - a powerful antioxidant.
Per 250ml diluted serving it contains no fats, around 1% of your daily salt allowance and 7% of your daily calories. The bad news is it also contains 37% of your daily sugar allowance !!!
It comes in a plastic bottle ( made from 100% recycled plastic) and is fully recyclable. The paper label has the words Ribena in bold lettering above which is a picture of some juicy blackcurrants.
It is suggested that the drink is best stored in the fridge and drunk within 21 days.
So what is it like?
Well I poured a small amount into my mug and filled up with boiling water. As soon as i tasted the gorgeous blackcurrants I could see why the price is fairly high - it is quite simply the richest blackcurrant juice on the market and it slipped down easily, soothing my hot aching throat.
Would I recommend it?
Not as a drink to have on a daily basis as for me that is to pricey and far too high in sugar - tho there is now a Ribena Light.
To have as a hot drink when feeling sorry for yourself with a nasty throat - definately!
Summary: Very good when feeling full of cold
