Advantages: Amazing taste, nice and fruity
Disadvantages: Stupid ringpull, expensive, sometimes gets clutterd with promotional offers
Cordial is one of the few things that I must have a brand product of, along with mayonnaise and baked beans. The store own stuff just doesn't cut it for me, and Ribena is amongst the best of cordials. To me it just oozes quality, well, not so much quality as pure tastiness. It has that full, fruity sort of taste that I long for in a drink.
The standard bottle of Ribena comes in a 1 litre bottle of blackcurranty goodness. The main problem is that 1 litre seems a lot when you are mixing each glass with water but when I've got hold of it it goes down quickly. The packaging reflects it's fullness, with a cone shaped bottle wrapped in purple paper with images of blackcurrants on. The font is nice and smooth saying "Ribena" in a slightly lighter shade of purple and surrounded by a white aura ensuring it stands out from the background. There is a foil wrapping around the top of the bottle and the lid which I sometimes find quite annoying and when you have navigated this foil you then have the almost impossible challenge of removing the ringpull without spilling any of hte precious nectar. Another problem with the packaging is I find it sometimes gets cluttered up with various promotional offers.
Nutritionally it really isn't that good for you, with each 250ml serving (Although to be fair I'm not sure if that is 250ml of pure Ribena or a standard glass mixed with water) containing 115 calories and 31% of your recommended daily sugar intake. It does have a lot of Vitamin C in it and apparently it is a powerful antioxidant.
In summary, Ribena is a great drink, not nutritionally great but taste wise it's phenomenal. Not very cheap though with a litre bottle costing in excess of £3.
Summary: Very nice drink indeed!
