Advantages: Delicious taste, easy to make, lasts a while.
Disadvantages: Expensive.
As I do not drink much alcohol or tea or coffee I like to have a selection of fruit juices and squashes around the house for those days when water just isn't hitting the spot.
I usually purchase the 1 litre bottles of Ribena when these are on offer as the usual price is £2.74 which is damn expensive but recently I managed to pick them up for £2.00 each in Asda so I snapped up a couple.
Ribena is provided in a plastic or glass bottle (dependant on size) and has a foil covering over the lid (a bit like a bottle of wine) which makes it look and feel pretty luxurious.
The juice itself is a gloopy, thick dark coloured liquid which contains real fruit juice (5% from concentrate after dilution) and is a good source of vitamin c (amongst other things). It's very simply to make and I usually use one part for five parts of water to get the perfect consistency and strength for my taste buds. It has a delicious strong fruity flavour to it and is lovely and refreshing. I usually have my squashes strong but this is not one to be drunk too strong as it kind of makes the mouth feel a little sticky and gloopy. The taste is absolutely delicious and because this is a little expensive I tend to limit the amount I drink at any one time.
I do drink cheaper blackcurrant drinks but none of them are a patch on the richness and thickness of Ribena. It has this instantly recognisable taste that just takes me back to my childhood.
Ribena can be purchased from many Supermarkets and even corner shops and you can also buy already diluted, ready to drink cartons but it's better value for money just to buy your own bottle and make it up when required.
I am going to rate this 5/5 as it's a natural drink, has no artificial rubbish and the packaging is recyclable.
Summary: A delicious fruit squash that is perfect for a long, hot summer evening.
