Advantages: Tastes great and no nasty artificial sweeteners

Disadvantages: High in calories - possibly more time at the dentists and the gym

Ribena is like Marmite; you either love it or you hate it. I love it and my boyfriend hates it, so it's great for me, no sharing!!

Over the 2 years I have been trying [due to heath reasons] to try and drink more water every day, in fact 2 litres...it's much harder than it sounds, especially when you don't like the taste of water! Yes, I don't like water. I actually can't stand the taste of the stuff and yes, alot of people have gasped in disbelief, told me not to be silly and that it doesn't taste of anything.

Anyway, my distaste for water yet my need for it have reduced me to looking like a child in meetings, because I now drink an awful lot of squash. And I've pretty much tried them all, but Ribena is my favourite.
Not only does it taste good [that lovely full blackcurrant taste] and full of antioxidants [what doesn't clain to be these days???!!] it lasts an age as well. I keep a bottle permanently in my office by my desk and a jug of water is filled twice a day to keep me going.

Aside from the benefits above, I was also drawn to Ribena because it didn't contain any artificial sweeteners. Following a serious illness I've become wary of anything 'artificial' in my foodstuffs and you wouldn't believe how many products contain sweeteners! For example the 'full fat' Robinsons squash contains artifical sweetener aspartame, which I personally wouldn't touch with a bargepole. Keep an eye out for certain 'high juices' these are also quite good at not containing artificial sweeteners.

Of course the downside to the squash is that it is 'full fat' and so contains quite a high sugar and calorie content.

Each 250ml diluted serving contains:
Calories: 115 = 6% of adults guideline daily amount
Sugars: 27.8g = 31% of adults guideline daily amount
Fat: nil
Saturates: nil
Salt: trace = <1% of adults guideline daily amount

I love Ribena, because the taste is great, it lasts ages and is helping me to drink more water.....even if it does mean more trips to the dentist and more time on the treadmill! I try and ditute it more and more each day to get most out of the bottle and keep the weight down [!] and to not lose the taste. I'm sure there must be an optimum ratio of juice to water, I will discover it one day!

Oh and lots of supermarkets have had reductions on ribena lately, best price at the moment I have found to be asda at £1.50 for 1litre bottle. It can work out much cheaper than buying the larger 2 litre bottle.

Summary: Great Squash that will get you drinking more water, but it's addictive!
