Advantages: yummy and environmentally aware

Disadvantages: there is sugar in it...

Ribena has been part of my life since I was a kid. It was thought of as a treat in our house, and my dad would ration it out as if it was the last bottle on earth.

I have always liked Ribena - only the original mind you, I never got into the other flavours (it isn't Ribena if it isn't blackcurrant!). I also hate the taste of any 'light' products, as they have those horrible sweeteners, and Ribena light is no exception. Have a look at the label and there they are... Aspartame and Acesulfame K - sounds and tastes yuck! Not to be found in the original, just good old sugar in there! I know it's not good for you, but I don't drink gallons of it at a time, and it's better than drinking sugar filled coca cola!

The diluting original comes in 3 sizes - 600ml, 1 litre and 2 litre. They also do ready to drink cartons and bottles.

I'll not talk about the list of ingredients etc, as I know other people have already written reviews about that. However there are a couple of things that may not have been mentioned so far. One is environmental, and the other involves freebies...

ENVIRONMENT
The manufacturers are committed to making the supply chain for Ribena as environmentally friendly as possible, from the way they grow the blackcurrants, to the packaging in which their products are packed.

In the UK almost 13 million plastic bottles are put into a landfill EVERY DAY.

Ribena have created the industries first bottles made from 100% recycled plastic. It is the ready to drink bottle, and you'll know it's the recycled one as it says so on the label.

You recycle the plastic bottle once you have finished it, and the benefits go on. You can read more about it and their environmental efforts on their website www.ribena.co.uk

FREEBIES
Ribena are currently running a promotion to where you can claim a variety of outdoor games and fun days out. You collect tokens from special packs, and depending on the number of tokens collected, you can get things like juggling balls, a football or face paints (6 tokens), or a rounders set, badminton or cricket set for 8 tokens. You might want to save up 12 tokens though. Then you can claim a fun day out, from canoeing, kayaking, archery, go-karting, golf, horse riding, rock climbing, sailing or even martial arts!

You can print off a collectors card online, and they throw in a token to get you started.

On the bottles:-
600ml = 1 token
1 litre = 2 tokens
2 litre = 4 tokens
4 pack of cartons = 1 token,
10 pack of cartons = 2 tokens.

I usually find that Asda have good prices on Ribena, and if your family go through a lot of it, you can soon have a fun day out together on Ribena!

Summary: a household favourite
