Advantages: Taste, Cost, Lack of calories
Disadvantages: None
I do enjoy fruit squash in general but I don't like it to be too sweet and sickly or too high in calories. Some of the orange squashes taste like liquid sugar! So, over the years I have tried quite a few different flavours and have tried various low sugar and low calorie squashes. The best one that I found is Robinson's Fruit and Barley Pink Grapefruit Squash with No Added Sugar. There are other flavours in this range but I happen to like the Pink Grapefruit flavour the best. In Tesco's at the moment it costs 99p for a one litre plastic bottle of this squash, but it is often on offer in most of the supermarkets at three for the price of two. I tend to stock up on a few bottles when the offer is on, but then you'd know that wouldn't you? Me being the original 'special offer woman'! So what do you get for your 99p? Well you get one litre of concentrated squash which, when diluted, will make roughly 20 glasses of the actual drink. This is working on the assumption that you use 50ml of squash to 200ml of water per drink. Obviously this is dependant on individual taste and whether you like your squash strong or weak. As a word of caution to you mothers out there, there is a note on the label of the bottle advising the use of more water if the drink is to be given to toddlers so that the resulting mixture is of a weaker consistency. The drink is made with at least 15% of pure pink grapefruit juice with no added sugar and no artificial colours. It is however sweetened with aspartame and saccharin. This means that a glass of squash made as directed in the earlier paragraph would contain only eight calories. As far as the taste goes, again I appreciate that this is a matter of personal preference, but I find this is the nicest squash that I have tasted. It has a good fruity flavour without being sweet and sickly and it is very thirst quenching. Any queries or complaints should be add
