Britvic Robinsons Fruit Shoot
Advantages: Low sugar and calories. Nice taste, wide range of flavours
Disadvantages: Bottles, price can be high
The Robinsons fruit shoots are generally seen as being for kids. The various sizes available makes them perfect for school lunches and for carrying around throughout the day.
However, I have also found they are great for adults too!
**What's in them**
It's only recent that I discovered the fruit shoots are great with their low calorie count.
The 200ml smaller bottles contain just 10 calories in the whole bottle, which makes them fine for people dieting and great for kids also as the 200ml bottles contain just 1.6g of sugar, 2% of a child's daily guide.
With the recent studies into the high amount of salt parents are unknowingly feeding their kids, its great to see these drinks contain 0g of salt and saturates, and trace of fat.
Me, my partner and his little son got through a load of these bottles today. The little boy being just 2 raced through 4 of these 200ml bottles! I was stunned but also worried as I had thought these had a high content of sugar, but I am nicely surprised to see otherwise and I will continue to buy these drinks.
The flavours come in;
Strawberry- Red bottles
Blackcurrant & Apple- Purple bottles
Orange- Orange bottles
Apple- Green bottles
And the Yellow coloured bottles which I think are limited edition which are tropical if I remember rightly.
The taste of these drinks vary greatly in my opinion. I love them all besides the strawberry which I think is too sweet, but others I know seem to love this flavour so it must just be me.
I generally think they do taste of their flavours, and they are all good quality tasting.
They don't taste watery or too diluted, they are quite fruity and the bottle advertises they are made from fruit juice from concentrated.
The price of these drinks can vary greatly between stores but I found a fantastic offer today.
Today I bought a four pack of 200ml (the smaller sized bottles) from Morrisons for just 84p! To say the larger bottles were 76p for just one, I was quite impressed with the price of the smaller pack.
The usual price is around £2 for the four packs of the lunch box 200ml sizes, and the price can get as high as £3.50 for the larger packs which I think is really too high.
I only buy these drinks when they are going for a good price and I would never spend over £3 for some diluted kids drinks, I would rather but some dilute squash for £1.
The bottles in my opinion could be better designed. As they were made for children- The competition on the side of the bottle being for under 12's gives this target audience away- I think the manufactures could have designed the bottle a lot better than it is.
The transparent lid comes off easily, a small child wouldn't be able to do this but an adult should remove the lid anyway to dispose of it to avoid any choking hazards.
The drinking cap can be very hard to lift up each time you want to drink from it and you may have to use your hands to put this up which I think is unhygienic and I really don't like doing this.
When drinking the juice from this bottle, I have found I need to keep stopping to let the air back into the bottle as it becomes very hard to get the juice out. I have also noticed this happens when small children drink from it too.
I also think the bottle could be easier to squeeze so it is easier for older children to drink from.
With the design of the bottle, it makes drinking from these slow and irritating and I have resulted into removing the whole lid by unscrewing it completely.
On the other hand, this could also be a way of ensuring children drink their drinks slowly and carefully as I know when children are running around, they could come for a quick rushed drink and get stomach ache.
Overall, kids love these, I generally don't mind them and I think the calorie and sugar count in them is great. I know I don't need to worry about my or a child's intake when consuming these as they are really great at keeping kids hydrated without filling them with sugar.
Thanks for reading, I also post on Ciao
Summary: Kids love them!
