Advantages: Kids love them, no added sugar
Disadvantages: Pricey, small bottles
I buy these for when my nephews and nieces come to visit, as they seem to a firm favourite and a staple amongst small children these days, however the other day I tried one myself for the first time and I was pleasantly, if only mildly surprised. I expected it to be syrupy sweet but it was ok.
The fruit shoot is only small, as its designed for very little children, there isn't really enough juice to quench an adult's thirst but a toddler will carry it around for hours taking their time! The bottle is easy for them to hold and it has a 'pop up' cap that they suck to get the juice out and pop back down when they aren't drinking, so soils can be easily avoided which is always a bonus.
The juice itself tastes a lot like ordinary blackcurrant squash to be honest, perhaps a little but fruitier and a little bit sweeter but it isn't really anything special. I think really you're paying extra for the bottle and the fact that kids seem to view it as a treat.
Fruit shoots aren't sugar free, but they are 'no added sugar' so not too terrible for little one's teeth and they have no artificial ingredients, so protective parents don't need to worry too much about letting their kids have one or two. I won't start buying these for myself though, I'll leave them for the under 5s!
Summary: Good as a treat for small children, but rubbish for thirsty grown ups!
