Advantages: handy size tasters

Disadvantages: not the best for dieters

I first came across Rubicon products when I was out buying hangover food. As I don't like orange juice and I can't stomach apple juice (literaly) I thought I'd try the mango flavour and loved it. I don't remember the price but it wasn't expensive. Then the shop stopped selling it. I had looked for it in a few shops and recently my local Tesco starting selling it.

To my surprise there are now six flavours and they come in large cartons and small lunch box sizes with straws. I bought one of each flavour and have so far tried the pomegranate. First impressions: the packaging is simple, but colourful and relates to the fruit that each is. They all list what the have in terms of vitamins and how that helps you. For exapme, the passion fruit has 'Provitamin A for a Healthy Immune System'. All the flavours vary with their benefits. They are all 'packed with antioxidents'.

There's the usual science stuff on the side and the only downside is that calories and sugar are higher than other fruit juices. So not the best if you are on a diet.

The straw is different to normal For a start it's actually quite difficult to poke through the plastic wrapper. And then there is the bit you stick in your mouth. The end has been closed and there a four holes around the top. So when you suck you get more of a spray than a stream of juice. Does this help? Yes, I would say that you get a better flavour in your mouth because of. So a thumbs up for the straw.

The juice itself is very sweet and won't suit everyone, but it's very refreshing and a nice change from the usual supermarket own brands. The flavout is rich and not manufactued and tatses the way it should. I have the whole range in the fridge and so far have not told the kids as they would have them all drunk in ten minutes.

The range varies in price from 35p to 44p for the 288ml carton so it's a good alternative to fizzy canned drinks. They are not chilled in the supermarket and they definately taste better chilled. I am not sure of the price of the bigger cartons, but if memory serves it's around 89p to £1

So all in, it's an exotice juice drink with very little else added in a range of flavours that will make you think of a sun kissed beach. Even if it's just for a few seconds when stuck at work.

Summary: taste of exotic in rainy britain
