Advantages: 'Better for the environment'

Disadvantages: Worse value, smells like BO

Beware the all new Sainsbury's Basics Apple & Blackcurrant squash. Recently, Sainsbury's have replaced the old 1 litre bottles with 'new and improved' 1.5 litre bottles; their argument being that this uses less packaging and needs fewer lorries on the road, and as a result, it's good for the environment. Surely less packaging and fewer lorries should mean it's cheaper? Since the pence per 100ml has increased from 1.8 to 3.5, this obviously isn't the case. You can, allegedly, get twice as many drinks from it, but this a) isn't practically the case, and b) doesn't justify doubling the price (per 100ml) when materials and logistics should be reduced.

This would be easy to bare, after all, it's still only 53 pence, were it not for the fact that it just doesn't taste as nice, in fact, it smells awfully like BO. It's not as fruity and tastes significantly more artificially sweetened. It's low in calories, and makes water slightly more easy to drink, but that's just about all it has going for it.

My perception is that it's a clever attempt from Sainsbury's to charge more for less, while at the same time attempting to paint a picture of a company that is especially friendly to the environment. Given the constant offers on other lines of squash, unless you have no other choice, avoid this new and inferior reincarnation of an old product.

Summary: A lesser reincarnation of a greater product

I had a glass of this at my nieces house recently and found it so harsh it made my throat sore!
