... many of the basics range products which are really nice. When I opened the box, I was however, surprised by what was inside. It looked like a lot of tea that was originally in the bags had escaped and was now in the bottom of the box, making it look, well, a bit dirty and off putting to be honest. However, still not defeated I decided to try it in action. I made a cuppa in the usual way, leaving the bag in for as long as possible as I do actually like my tea to be so strong you can cut it with a knife. However, ...more

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Teabags: It Would Make Grannie Grimace and Giggle (1102 words)

When I was very young, I remember my Grandma serving tea. There were no teabags in those days and the leaf tea would be spooned into the brown earthenware teapot, one spoonful per person and one for the pot! The pot would then be encased in its knitted, pompom-topped cosy whilst the tea was left to "draw". After an appropriate time lapse, the steaming brown brew would be poured into delicate flowery china cups with matching saucers. Most of the time all was well and Grandpa would compliment her on a 'lovely cuppa' but now and again, Gran would study the result of her labours, furrow her brow and proclaim, "Gnats!" and I somehow knew all was not well. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Very Basic - Some would say tasteless (327 words)

I am very much of the opinion that there are some items you can go economy on (such chopped tomatos, beans) and some which you just cant, T-Bags being one of them. I tried these quite recently due to all the media hype about supermarket value products being just as good as branded ones, espeically during the credit crunch when we're all counting the pennies. The T-Bags come in the standard Sainsburys no frills basics box, I didnt let that put me off though as I use many of the basics range products which are really nice. When I opened the box, I was however, surprised by what was inside. It looked like a lot of tea that was originally in the bags ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Teabags: Bag a box of these! (415 words)

Before I start writing about this product, I have to tell you that I am not an avid tea drinker, I barely drink the stuff and you will often find me with a glass of water in my hand. This review is coming from someone who does not have a first class honors degree in tea and the making of it so you might not want to take what I say as gospel and read further reviews of this product from people who enjoy the stuff daily. I paid around 30p for a box of 80 tea bags from Sainsburys which is a bargain! The tea bags are rectangular in shape and have a lot of tea inside each bag. The box states that they are Fair trade tea bags which can only be a good ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Disgusting Tea Shop Floor Sweepings. (400 words)

It's quite rare for me to drink tea or coffee as I am generally a fan of cold drinks no matter what the time of year. However, I recently was offered a cup of tea at my Mum's place and promptly said yes as I was in a tea drinking kind of mood! My Mum brought me over a cup of tea with two sugars in and when I took a sip I was instantly met with a disgusting, harsh taste that was quite chemical-like and I actually refused to drink anymore and had a little gag after trying tea made with these tea bags. I had a look at the tea bags and while they look a little thin they really do look like bog standard tea bags to be honest. My fiance was also drinking ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Basics Teabags: 80 To Tea For 28p (770 words)
by - written on 13/04/09 (Very useful, 127 readings)

80 teabags for 28p? It seems to be such a ridiculous price that most people will just by pass them in favour of a brand name. Last week we had a walk to Sainsbury's and the Other Half was sussing out the Basics range with a keen eye. I could see him eyeing up the Basics teabags and as much as I tried to steer him away and change the conversation it just wasn't going to work. In the end we reached a compromise, The Other Half put his pack of 80 Sainsbury's Basics teabags into the trolley and I bought my usual brand too. I tend to be a bit sceptical where cheap turns into give-away! I wouldn't say that I had no interest in his little experiment ...  Read the complete review
