I only have 1-2 cups of Tea a year, but I do like Tea. Why do I drink so little? Well i'm not entirely sure, and people think i'm weird for my small consumption. My favourite brand is Tetley, and I have to have it with half full of Milk. I guess the term is lighthouse tea - near water, but it's how I like it.
Last week we were at a friend's house and she offered me a Cup Of Tea. She is on a budget, and I didn't fancy the Orange Squash she had and I was thirsty, so this is where I tried these Tea Bags.
They are part of the Sainsbury's budget brand, which is called Basics. I've saw these in the shop and they cost 34p for 80 Tea Bags.
The Tea bags are rectangular shaped and are joined together in 2's, so you have to rip along the perforated part to get the apart. This is easy enough, and they didn't rip, so that's a bonus. The box has that nice dusty Tea aroma in it, and a few loose granuals on the bottom.
The packaging isn't that exciting. It is a thin cardboard box and is mainly white in colour. The writing is in orange and it just looks pretty cheap - but then again it is cheap!
I was surprised how strong this Tea tasted. I made my own, as I said how fussy I am about Tea at the start of the review. I normally add my Milk first before the Water, then the Tea Bag and then the Hot Water. This changed to a medium brown colour really quickly, and by squeezing the Tea Bag then the Liquid got to a darker Brown.
The taste was nice enough, but it wasn't as sweet as Tetley. It was a very Tea tasting taste, and what I mean by that is that is tasted like ground, slightly bitter Tea Leafs. I wouldn't say it tasted cheap, but it just didn't taste as smooth and nice as more expensive Tea.
Perhaps it is because I prefer Milky, Sweet Tea and that is more what i'm used to, but I think this would be an ideal brew for someone who likes stronger Tea. It was nice enough, I would have another if offered, but I wouldn't have it in the house for myself.

- 31/08/09 I don't mind these at all, although I have to leave the teabag in for quite a while. They were only 28p in my local Sainsburys - such a bargain! |

- 30/08/09 1 or 2 cups a year?!
So you can't ever dare buy tea bags as most would go off before you could use them!
Interesting review. |
