Advantages: Cheaper than a branded product
Disadvantages: This saving is lost as it tastes so bad you have to buy some regular Tea after two cups
I am very much of the opinion that there are some items you can go economy on (such chopped tomatos, beans) and some which you just cant, T-Bags being one of them.
I tried these quite recently due to all the media hype about supermarket value products being just as good as branded ones, espeically during the credit crunch when we're all counting the pennies.
The T-Bags come in the standard Sainsburys no frills basics box, I didnt let that put me off though as I use many of the basics range products which are really nice. When I opened the box, I was however, surprised by what was inside. It looked like a lot of tea that was originally in the bags had escaped and was now in the bottom of the box, making it look, well, a bit dirty and off putting to be honest.
However, still not defeated I decided to try it in action. I made a cuppa in the usual way, leaving the bag in for as long as possible as I do actually like my tea to be so strong you can cut it with a knife. However, when I did eventually get around to drinking what I had made I was not impressed - the tea tasted weak and milky, despite the T-Bag having been in for ages. The colour was pretty OK, so I was really shocked by the weakness. As well as being weak, this product just donest taste as good as regular tea, it leaves a sort of 'powedery' after taste which isnt nice at all - I wouldnt even say it was like tea leaves because the powder is very fine. Really not a pleasant experience.
I ended up throwing the rest of the box out after giving it another change and having the same result - I suppose a lesson has been learned though - you just cant economise on tea.
Summary: Not for those who lovva cuppa
