Can't beat a good figgy pudding (Sainsbury's Coffee Viennese Style & Fig Seasoning)

Advantages: Relatively cheap, balanced and non-offensive coffee

Disadvantages: Fig flavour undetectable; coffee nice but unremarkable

I bought this from Sainsbury's as part of their 2 for £3 offer on several different flavours of own brand coffee. I like coffee and figs, so on paper this made for a really tasty combination. The reality was a little disappointing; the fig taste was barely discernible (there was a healthy 12% or so of fig grounds in the mix, but even a subtle flavour of fig was hard to detect), and the underpinning coffee, whilst perfectly drinkable and with a good rounded and smooth finish, was nothing more than quite decent.

In all, I was slightly underwhelmed by this coffee. I'm a huge coffee addict and will get my fix in whatever form is available - and this coffee does of course rank rather higher than a vending machine's finest! But, for a ground coffee it could do better - for the Sainsbury's offer in question (which seems to be a permanent fixture in my store), you'd be better off picking two alternative flavours as there are better coffees included in the deal.

Summary: Okay for a change, but wouldn't be frequent choice
