Advantages: Raspberry tones down the bitterness of the cranberry
Disadvantages: Only 15% of the juice is concentrate - what's the other 85%?!
I like to drink a bit of cranberry juice as it's healthy, but I'm not overly fond of the taste, which can be quite bitter sometimes. Because of this, I prefer juice drinks that contain cranberry juice but have something added so that the taste isn't too bitter.
***The Juice***
The picture of the juice on the packaging made it look quite pale in colour. I sometimes buy a Tesco version of this, which is quite a dark red in colour and this seemed like it was going to be a lot different to that. Once I had flipped up the lid, peeled back the foil from the opening and poured some into a glass, I was a bit surprised to see that it was actually quite a deep red in colour (much like the Tesco version) and nothing like the photo on the packaging. Only 10 per cent of the juice is cranberry concentrate, and only 5 per cent is raspberry concentrate. I dread to think what the other 85 per cent is, but judging from the list of ingredients, it is probably some combination of water, sugar and natural flavourings. This is one area that makes me quite loathe to buy the cheaper juice options, as not that much of it is actually juice. The likes of Tropicana is more expensive but it is supposed to be 100% pure fruit juice, whereas this clearly isn't.
***The Taste***
As I just mentioned, I was a bit sceptical at first about the amount of cranberry juice, but the taste was predominantly of cranberry with just a small hint of something sweeter. The lingering aftertaste is also mostly cranberry but fortunately the bitterness isn't too extreme.
***The Price***
As this is a Sainbury's own brand product, you can only buy it from Sainsburys. The current price is around 95p for a 1 litre carton, which usually lasts for around two or three days if I have one to two glasses per day. These types of juice drinks are often on offer so you can buy up to three at a cost effective price. At the moment, you can get any three of the Sainsbury's own brand juices for £2.25.
Summary: Doesn't seem like the healthiest juice out there
