      Buy it

We generally always seem to get Tropicana when we buy orange juice during the weekly shop because we all like it and see it as the best brand of orange juice, but it is quite expensive for juice when there are a lot of different brands that have similar things that we haven't tried before so this basics one was put in the trolley! It is a sainsburys basics product so the packaging reflects this, it isn't quite as fancy as the premium brands. Rather than in a carton, it is in a see through container with a handle which is in some ways quite a lot better because then you can see how much is definitely left in rather than guessing and it is easier for pouring. It also has the white and orange sainsburys basics colour scheme, with the ingredients on the back of the bottle. Taste is obviously the most important thing regarding a drink, and I have to say this pretty much matches up to Tropicana. It may be a basic price and brand but it overall really exceeds my expectations. It is a really juicy and strong orange taste that is really enjoyable and quite sweet. It is nice by itself or it can also be good as a mixer with things like vodka or peach schnapps. It costs just 68p for a litre which I really don't think is bad considering that premium brands can be around £2.50 and not too much better. I would definitely recommend trying this!

1 litre of Refreshing Tangy Concentrated Orange Juice at 69p

I was in Sainsburys last week and had purchased an ice-lolly maker in the store with a nostalgic yearning for Orange Lollies like my mum used to make in the early 80s. When it came to purchasing the juice for the ice-lollies I really didn't think it necessary to spend £2 for Tropicanna Orange Juice and decided to use the cheap 69p Sainsburys Basics Orange Juice (From Concentrate) which can be found on the bottom shelf of the fridge in rather uninspiring plastic milk carton packaging. Admittedly one of the benefits of the packaging is that the container can be placed on it's side in the fridge without fear of it leaking and is easily recycled. Well the main reason for purchasing this juice was to make cheap OJ ice lollies but I also tried it straight up the following morning with low expectations and was happily suprised. The orange juice is fantastic it has a really tangy refreshing taste without being overly sweet or bitter the balance in my opinion is perfect. I have since purchasing this juice bought it as breakfast juice and would not pay out the much higher price of £2 when the taste difference isn't really that great. The following evening the retro ice lollies came out of the freezer and they were fantastic they will definently be a hit in the peak of summer and will save me a fair bit of money too. The juice when frozen becomes quite a bit tangier and almost like grapefruit juice which is my favourite but might not suit everyone. The only downsides to this orange juice is the fact that it's not fresh like Tropicana but made from concentrate which means that the vitamin content can be somewhat reduced but then again it only costs 69p. Well considering the balance of Pros and cons I can quite happily conclude that the Pros heavily outweigh the negatives and I'll be purchasing this juice from now on. Would Recommend.

Nice drink for all the family.

Have you ever heard the song with the words, you will always find him in the kitchen at parties, well that is where I am usually found because I love food and drink so much lol. I like soft drinks and also beer etc as most of us do, especially at Christmas time. I have been to quite a few parties recently and have had all my family come visit me on many occasions and this drink is one I buy regular for my grandchildren and also for myself. It comes in a very strong, clear plastic bottle with a nice handle to hold to pour the juice from the bottle, it comes in the basics colours of Orange and white and it has a screw off top. The juice is a nice pale Orange colour, I like the handle as it means I can pour it easily into a glass and my older grandchildren can also hold it comfortably without spilling it as much as they would if the handle was not on the side of the bottle. The juice is a really nice taste, it is not a bland one, it is actually quite strong for the cheap price of just 59p for a 1 litre bottle. It is a very refreshing drink and very satisfying too. My grandchildren love this one as much as I do. I like to drink it any time of the day but most of all I love it in the mornings with my breakfast. It contains Vitamin C and minerals and so it is quite a healthy drink for all the family, it also has a very good sell by date too of around 2 weeks or so when I checked the bottle I am using at the moment, I bought it just before Christmas and it can be used until January the 11th, so quite some time to use it and leave it in the fridge if you want to buy it and store it until ready to use it etc. Once it has been opened it is advised to use it within 4 days, which is also a good amount of days if you only drink a little at a time, mine actually does not last that long in my home as I drink it quite often because the taste is just delicious. I can really taste the concentrated Oranges and find it does not have any of those tiny particles some juices tend to have floating around the drink in the glass. For the cheap price it does have a very strong smell of the Oranges and the taste of them is also apparent, I have tried some other cheaper brands over the years and they have had not much taste of the flavour they are supposed to be at all but with this one it can be tasted to my liking. For a 200ml serving in a glass it contains, 84 calories, 0.2g fat, total sugars 18.2g and it does taste quite sweet but not a sickly sweet for a juice, it is a pleasant taste and not bitter at all as some others I have found to be on the market. The bottle can be recycled too and stored in a fridge door as it is a nice slim bottle and not at all bulky as some others can be, this one sits nicely in the fridge and when chilled it tastes deliciously refreshing. It also tells me on the bottle it is suitable for both Vegetarians and Vegans. I think this one is good for anyone who loves juice and are on a lower income and have a lot of children or grandchildren as I do, I think it is a super drink for all the family and I highly recommend it. I rate it 5 stars.

A good juice for a low price, bit high on sugars

Sainsburys have a large range of basics items, and one of these items is the Fresh Orange Juice from Concentrate. It comes in a plastic bottle, much like a milk carton and has a orange screw top lid. The bottle has a white and orange label on it, with nutritonal information and ingrediants on the side. There is one litre of juice in a bottle and it costs just 56p. The juice is a smooth juice, with no bits in it. It tastes just like orange juice should, smooth and yummy with no sharpness to its taste. It goes down quite nicely and I can never make a bottle last very long, although it does have a pretty good use by date, usually about 3 weeks, although the bottle does recommend drinking it within four days after you have opened it. It also recommends to keep it refridgerated. This juice is freezeable, if you freeze it on the day of purchase. The juice, contains 67% of your RDA of Vitamin C, and a 200ml serving contains 84 calories, 0.2 grams of fat, 18.2 grams of sugar and a trace of salt. Apart from the sugar, the drink is quite good for you, so I try not to drink it too often as I try to limit my intake of sugar. If you are looking to buy some orange juice that is of top quality and great taste for a low price, I recommend you buy this one. 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars from me.

        would recomend to anyone

Background: Every morning when I wake up and after my first cup of coffee of course I make a start on breakfast. With my breakfast I like a glass of fresh orange juice to set me up for the day ahead. ***The Product*** As you can see this orange just is Sainsbury own make, a cheaper version than say Princes. It is made from concentrate. Not from concentrate orange juice is just squeezed orange juice whereas from concentrate has had the water removed, is frozen, transported and then the water is added again As for the packaging as you can see I it pretty basic but isn't that Sainsbury saying "back to basic". It is pretty simple in a fostered coloured plastic bottle with a white label round the bottom with information on it stating the nutrition values along with advertising the juice on the front of the bottle. It has a screw top lid which is bright orange and easy to open and close. But please sit this bottle up right in your fridge as it does leak. ***Taste*** This "basic" orange juice tastes exactly the same as the normal own brand Sainsbury's orange juice, I honestly cannot tell the difference between the two except for the price. The ingredients list for both orange juices are the same: 100% orange juice from concentrate. It has a sweet tasting and also a little bitter taste it is a nice mixture that I am actually quite happy with. I mean you for the bottle of orange juice I paid 48 pence for come on I'm not really going to complain am I? and I am pretty sure you wouldn't either it actually really rather nice. *** My Overall Opinion*** I would recommend this product as it is so cheap and taste rather good and leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth. And if you try it and don't like well..... Its only 48 pence wasted isn't it, its not like it is going to break the bank. I will also give you a little tip: to save extra money and get more out your orange juice fill your cup ¾ of the way full with orange juice and the rest with cold water. I doesn't taste any different and that way you get more for your money. I would rate this product a 10 out of 10. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope it was of some use to you

          Another Fantastic Basics Product.

I purchased this product instead of my normal Tropicana saving myself almost £1.50 on a 1 litre carton. This product is 56p a litre at present and is an absolute bargain! It is basic packaging, a standard juice carton with the Sainsbury's basics logo all over it and telling you that it is orange juice made from concentrate. Upon opening the plastic milk carton style packaging there is a slight chemical smell but you can also smell oranges which is obviously a good start! The juice is smooth with absolutely no bits and looks a little watery when poured out in a glass. The juice smells just like oranges once out of the carton. When tasting the product I notice that it is indeed very smooth and has an almost sour kick to it, if you have a mouth ulcer this is definitely not the product for you! It does not taste completely like oranges, there is a slight after taste left by the product but for a concentrated juice it is about as good as can be expected. A "serving" is 200ml I believe (based on the calorie information) and contains around 84 calories, it is also a good source of your RDA of vitamin C. As Basic products go this isn't too bad at all, it's not Tropicana but then it is basically 1/4 of the price so I wouldn't expect it to be! The difference mainly is that Tropicana Pure is not made from concentrate so naturally this product isn't going to directly compare in taste. I would recommend this product if you want a cheap juice for breakfast or something to mix up a cocktail with. It does contain quite a lot of sugar but then Tropicana Pure has 20% of your daily allowance of sugars in one "serving". I would recommend this product, you get what you pay for with Basics and as orange juice goes you could probably do a lot worse than this. However, if you want something that tastes more fruity I would recommend either buying a premium brand or using a high concentrated fruit squash. I have rated this product 4/5 and would have given it a 5/5 had it not had a chemical smell upon opening the carton. Don't forget that the carton can be recycled in around 90% of the UK.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

I always buy this now :)

I like a glass of orange juice in the morning but i do not like to pay some of the silly pices for it. Some juices are up to £3 a carton of juice, thats ridiculous. Sainsburys basic orange juice is 56p and just as good. Orange juice is orange juice isnt it. Its a juice that tastes of oranges. You can not go wrong. For 56p for 1ltr why would you want to pay any more? The packaging isnt very exciting. It does not have fancy colours with pictures of anything at all. It is just a clear plastic bottle and a boring standard sainsburys basic label, or the carton is a white carton with the basic label on. The taste is, well of oranges. It contains vitamin c which is good and natural sugars which is the reason i drink it. Some value orange juices can taste sour and bitter which makes me screw my face up and wink but this doesnt. This tastes pretty much the same as the Tesco value orange juice which is the same price as this. But as i now have a Sainsburys in walking distance of my home and not a Tesco this is now the juice that is always in my fridge. For 56p for 1ltr you cant go wrong.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

You should definitely try this out!!!

I used to buy Tropicana orange juice, but since I've been trying to spend less money I 'downgraded' to 'from concentrate' orange juice. I never bought the cheapest orange juice as I expected it would have that strange 'bitty' taste that you can get with some orange juices. However, I thought I'd try the 55p Sainsbury's basic orange juice as it's half the price of any of the other orange juices on sale. ~ Taste ~ This 'basic' orange juice (6p per 100ml) tastes exactly the same as the normal own brand Sainsbury's orange juice (10-15p per 100ml based on the size of carton). I honestly cannot tell the difference between the two except for the price. I decided to see if there was any physical difference between the two. The ingredients list for both orange juices are the same: 100% orange juice from concentrate; all sugars naturally occurring. The nutritional information shows that both orange juices are pretty much the same: Basics has an extra 0.6g of sugar and 0.2g of fat but 5 less calories per 200ml but otherwise there is no difference. I think if you are buying orange juice from concentrate, particularly Sainsbury's 'prettier packaged' one then you should definitely consider buying the Basics orange juice. The only downside for the Basics orange juice is that you can't get it with bits in (or it may be an upside if you hate bits!). ~ Price ~ The Basics orange juice is 55p (for a litre) compared with 97p (for a litre) for the 'prettier packaged' Sainsbury's orange juice. ~ Packaging ~ Well as you can see from the picture it's not the most aesthetically pleasing packaging, but if it really offends you then you could always decant it into a beautiful jug... ~ From concentrate ~ Not from concentrate orange juice is just squeezed orange juice whereas from concentrate has had the water removed, is frozen, transported and then the water is added again. I do think not from concentrate orange juice tastes better, however from concentrate orange juice still tastes great. Personally, I'd rather pay 6p per 100ml for Basics from concentrate orange juice than 30p per 100ml for freshly squeezed orange juice (Sainsbury's taste the difference). ~Overall ~ I think that the Basics orange juice tastes just as good as the other orange juice on sale (from concentrate) and is half the price - it's a no brainer for me. Compared with freshly squeezed orange juice the taste isn't as nice, but it still tastes great. Price: 10/10 Packaging: 3/10 Taste: 8/10
