Advantages: fizzy & tasty at first
Disadvantages: too sugary & goes flat quickly once opened
Whilst hubby & I usually drink coffee, tea & bottled water I'm always on the lookout for drinks that my daughters would like apart from fresh juices. To be honest I usually opt for Tesco's Value diet lemonade which is only 19p a bottle as we're all quite happy with that. Yesterday hubby cam home with some non-diet lemonade from Sainsbury's for a change.
The 2 litre bottle cost 43p & looks exactly as shown in the picture in a clear plastic bottle with the deep blue screw on/off cap. I found the cap a little difficult to undo but it kept the lemonade nice & fizzy - at first...
To be fair we're all used to diet lemonade so on first tasting this it seems really sweet & sugary - looking at the nutritional values (clearly stated on the label) it's telling me there's 28.8g of sugars per 250ml - no wonder it tasted sweet! The other information tells me that there are 117 calories per 250ml which is too high for my liking I'm afraid.
The product is suitable for vegetarians & vegans & claims to be a 'light refreshing carbohydrate drink' - I think I'd describe this as a 'sugary, sweet, heavy drink'. Although there IS a taste of lemonade it doesn't seem to last long before the sugar takes over.
As far as ingredients are concerned - carbonated water, sodium citrate. potassium sorbate & sugars etc don't inspire me to buy any more of this lemonade. I know my regular Tesco one isn't healthy by any means but I prefer not to have so much sweetness in my mouth.
I also found that, once opened, the lemonade seemed to go flat much quicker than other brands.
summary
~
- at 43p it's fairly cheap if you're going to drink it straightaway as it goes flat.
- nice initial taste of lemonade but this wears off quickly.
- very sweet & seems to leave an aftertaste in my mouth.
- higher sugar & calorie content compared to some.
- nice enough bottle - shame about the taste.
Summary: won't be buying this again

- 10/05/09 The only kind of carbonated drink I buy now is coca-cola (but unfortunately I can't stand the diet version!). I'll probably have no teeth left by the time I'm 40 ;) |

- 09/05/09 I buy this stuff and quite like it. I buy it mainly for the bottles. I only buy the 1L bottles and use them for my homebrew beer. I tried the 2L Sainsbury's basics Lemonade and that is like fizzy water. What a waste of 14p !!! Nice review. |
