Lemonade has taken a back seat in my house of late as I have a powerful lust for lilt and to a lesser but still substantial degree coca cola. Poor lemonade has been feeling a bit ignored so for the sake of keeping our friendship alive I endeavered to pick up a bottle to go along with the pimms I'd just bought.
In days gone by it was always R whites that had pride of place in my fridge, but I couldn't find any in my haste to get the shopping done I just picked up sainsburys own lemonade on the basis that their stuff is generally pretty good.
I got it home and put it in the fridge to get cold, I don't want to be drinking warm lemonade (I'm not a barbarian for pity's sake, lol). After a few hours I got it out of it's chilly prison and poured a nice tall glass with ice cubes, I took a big sup and instantly could see the folly of my error. Always R whites no matter how many shops I have to go to get it, never Sainsburys own.
Despite the boast of containing "real fruit" on the bottle, on careful inspection it is revealed that the drink contains only 2% lemon juice, a token gesture to allow them to make the claim of real fruit. It shows as well, the lemonade tastes too artificial with an almost sherbetty taste which is most unpleasant. Also R whites is a little dry whilst sainsburys is not, for me this was a negative but it may be a plus for some. Also sainsburys was too sweet, again a negative for me possibly a plus for others.
In retrospect I'd have gone to another shop on the way home and got the real deal, as it was, the lemonade went fine in the Pimms as when you're half pished you no longer quibble so enthusiastically about the dryness of ones lemonade ; )
Summary: A basic lemonade that could be worse but could be much better
