Sainsbury's Basics Fruit Cocktail Juice
by purplekimmy
Basics Fruit Cocktail drink is 59p at the moment. The first time I got this was when ordering my shopping online. I ordered orange juice but was deleivered this instead. It was cheaper than my origional choice so I thought I would try it out.
I popped it in the fridge ready to drink later. It came in the usual white and orange ... lable, thick see-through plastic bottle with an orange screw top lid.
I poured myself a glass of this orange liquid and was immediately hit in the face with a sickly sweet aroma. It was very fruity, although I couldn't pick out which fruits. It wasnt unpleasant, just quite full on. I drank a mouthful and was very surprised, I do not like things that are too sweet, but the scent of this drink was rather misleading. The flavour was weaker than the smell would have you beleive. This is going to sound a little strange, but the drink also felt quite thick in my mouth, although it is not thicker than any other juice, I do not know if it is the full flavour that has this effect or not but it does make for a very refreshing if not moreish drink.
I love this as do the rest of my family, I only wish they did it in a bigger carton, like milk, 4 pints of this would be awesome. Read the complete review |

Sainsbury's Basics Instant Chocolate
by purplekimmy
As you will know if you read my reviews, I ofter buy Sainsburys Basics, I am not proud, if I can save money on my shopping, I am all for it.
Basics in general is a pleasant change to the expensive brands, and the taste is overall not that different. That said, the odd one is wrong from the moment you get it home. Unfortunatly ... this goes in that catagory. You get the usual white and orange lable, with info on, no change there, I orangey brown plastic container, orange screw lid. Quite simple really, once the foil lid has been peirced, the smell is just odd. It definalty doesnt smell like hot chocolate, or any other kind of chocolate for that matter.
The colour was brown of sorts, but with a white powerey covering. It sounds strange I know but thats because it was. I added two teaspoons into a cup and added hot water. It didnt really mix properly together, it stayed on top of the water, giving it a weak brown colouring. I tasted it and it just tasted of nothing. I added further spoonfuls of powder, and sugar just for some excitement but yet again it failed to even resemble chocolate.
It is only 40p for 400g so I wont compain too much, I have binned it and marked it down to an experience I will never try again.
I would advise people to leave this on the shelf. Read the complete review |

Sainsbury's Basics Diet Cola
by purplekimmy
Good old Basics range, familiar white and orange lable, plain but to the point.
17p for a 2L bottle, even if it tastes like dish water can you really complain about it? The answer....no, apart from on a review site like this one, and that is what I am going to do now!!
My kids drink this and yes they can definalty ... tell the difference between this and Coca Cola! It is a normal brown cola colour, smell sweet and vile like most brands do. Right amount of bubbles, not overly fizzy but not half flat either. Now onto the crunch, the actual flavour. It is a hard one to describe really, it taste like Panda cola used to, vaigly like what cola is meant to taste like but so far apart from the actual Coca Cola they are trying to copy.
It isnt that vile that I would never drink it again, on a very hot day, if its ice cold and there is no other option I might have a glass but as a rule, my kids have full rein on this one. Although I know its a bit gross, the fact it doesnt taste 100%, means it lasts longer, which ups the value for money level too. Not as daft as I look eh!!
Ok for the kids, would be a waste if used as a mixer for spirits, stick to the real thing for that. Read the complete review |
