Advantages: Inexpensive, should suit many taste

Disadvantages: Quite sweet for those with a drier palate

Oooh - what a sweety! Wine that is (of course, what else would I be writing about?!)

Any regular readers of my opinions will have sussed by now that during my extensive "research" into the world of alcohol I have discovered that medium white and rose wines suit my palate best. So here's another one!

Sainsburys Piesporter Michelsberg - a mouthful of a name which gives a lovely mouthful of wine and not too much of a mouthful of a price! This one is only £2.99 for a standard 75cl bottle from Sainsburys so I can't complain really.

Produced in Germany for Sainsburys this wine originates from the Mosel (river) region and, according to the label, is made using "New World" techniques - although it doesn't go on to explain exactly what these techniques are. The end product is a sweet wine rating 4 on the dryness scale (1-9 = dry - sweet) - it is indeed sweet, almost to the point of being sickly, I would have said it rated more than a 4 but there you go. It has an alcohol content of 9% volume which is quite low compared to similar wines and after a whole bottle I still did not feel particularly tipsy so it is easy to consume a lot and makes a great drink on its own or for parties with no sudden ill effects.

Best serve chilled, as with almost all white wines, this makes a good wine to drink with most meals and, as I have already said, a great party drink. It is very fruity and grapey with no sharpness or tangy aftertaste which can be found in some similar wines and its aroma also gives the same impression. It smells pleasantly sweet, slightly floral and very fruity too. Some people used to a drier wine may well find it a little too sweet and cloying but I think those who prefer a sweeter wine will love it.

In a standard green wine bottle the label is simple but classy and indicative of this supermarkets' range of wines.

This was the first time I had tried this particular wine, previ
ously I would have said Liebfraumilch was my favourite wine in this range but now I have tried this I think it will become a firm favourite.

Hmmm, well we are all different, not my thing at all, I like a drier white, the sweet stuff I find sickly.
