Advantages: lower in sugar, mess free, very tasty
Disadvantages: difficulty in opening chocolate topping
Sainsbury’s reduced sugar cappuccino comes in a maroon one mug sachet and is suitable for vegetarians and those on a gluten free diet (according to the box). The sachet also contains the allergy advice that it contains milk.
This cappuccino mix comes in a box of 10 sachets with a 10g sachet of chocolate topping, which is meant for all the sachets but I prefer individual sachets, as you do not have to worry about retaining an opened sachet for the remainder of the packet.
The cappuccino sachets were very easy to open and tore without spilling everywhere – there was a little nick already prepared for tearing at. The chocolate sachet was another matter entirely. It was in a gold packet and was impossible to tear and, in sheer frustration, I ended up cutting it with scissors. This sachet has to be retained for future use with the other cappuccino sachets so it could have done with having a re-sealable facility because I had to fold it over and if the box gets moved/knocked etc, the chocolate could spill all over the inside of the box.
The Nescafe cappuccino (see alternative review) has a small tube with a click down lid which when opened has small holes for sprinkling the sachet evenly over the cappuccino. This method works better than the one described above as it is not possible to evenly sprinkle chocolate from a large sachet – especially as you have to ensure that you do not use too much and therefore run out for the others.
My colleagues at work often try instant cappuccino mixes as a change from the ordinary tea or coffee, we usually have. Unfortunately, they do not like anything with hydrogenated vegetable oil in after various recent health scares about it. This, unfortunately for them, has this ingredient – so more for me! I eat healthily so a bit of what you fancy does you good so long as it is only occasionally.
This is made with skimmed milk powder and lactose (a sugar naturally found in milk) with 17% coffee.
I found that this was very creamy, not too sweet and did not make too much of a mess in the cup. Instant cappuccino mixes often do not blend well and usually cling to the cup, but this one is a rarity in that it does not have this problem.
This costs £1. 69 at Sainsbury's
It is produced in the UK for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd, 33 Holborn, London, EC1N 2HT and more information is contained on the website: www.sainsburys.co.uk
